How to change your oil

Oil: Its the only thing keeping your motor from turning into garbage. Its typically a golden brown color when you first buy it. Its not all black naturally. It gets black from all the crap floating inside your motor. So the blacker the oil the badder its getting. Really black oil means you should change it. Synthetics are really good oils that can take higher heats and lubricate much better. Its motion lotion for your car. Mobil 1 is the favorite, Royal Purple and Redline are expensive favorites. Everything else is okay. I just go with Walmart stuff since I change my oil so frequently. If you notice oil leaks after switching from conventional to synthetic its because the conventional oil was blocking passages that the synthetic wiped clean. So expect some oil leakage when changing over.

Oil Filter: This is what keeps crap in your oil from circulating further through your motor and contaminating it. Mobil 1 and PureONE seem to be the most popular brands. K&N the most expensive. Fram seems to be really unpopular.

Ok so change your freaking oil:

1. Jack up the side of the car with the oil pan. Put a jack stand there so you dont die.

2. Use a socket wrench to remove the bolt from the oil pan. Use a pan or some sort of fluid catching gizmo large enough to hold 4 quarts or more. Use the wrench to the point where you could turn the bolt by hand. Then turn the bolt by hand. It'll probably get oil all over yourself and your hand if youre not cautious. That stuff is sticky and hot so watch out and use gloves!

3. After allowing all the oil to drain replace the plug and torque it back into place with the wrench. Use a new plug gasket for good measure.

4. Now place the pan below the oil filter and remove the filter using an oil filter wrench. Wipe the oil filter surface clean of black cruddy oil. Take the new filter and rub clean new oil on to the top gasket. Put the new filter on and tighten snugly.

5. Pour 5 or however many quarts of oil back into the engine. Lower the car back down and start the car up and idle for a good 5 minutes. Look for any leaks from the filter or pan. If oil is leaking it means you screwed up. Jack the car up and retighten whatever the hell it is thats leaking.
