NOTE: Take care not to scratch the tailgate and not to bend the bracket.

1.	Disconnect the negative battery cable. NOTE: If you remove the touch sensor with the battery negative cable still in plugged, the vehicle falls into the failure mode.

2.	Remove the maintenance lid (A). A

Remove the upper tailgate touch sensor (A). -1  Disconnect the sensor connector (B). -2  Remove the mounting bolt (C), screws (D), and clip (E). -3  Remove the upper tailgate touch sensor and grommet (F) from the tailgate, then pull the harness out. Remove the lower tailgate touch sensor (A). -1  Disconnect the sensor connector (B). -2  Remove the mounting bolt (C) and clip (D). -3  Remove the lower tailgate touch sensor and grommet (E) from the tailgate, then pull the harness out. Install the sensor in the reverse order of removal, and note these items: Make sure the connectors are plugged in properly. Reconnect the negative cable to the battery. Reset the clock. Do the ECM/PCM idle learn procedure. Perform the power window control unit reset procedure. Check the tailgate touch sensor operation.
