DESCRIPTION

In this circuit, the meter CPU receives engine speed signals from the power management control ECU using the CAN communication system. The meter CPU displays the engine speed calculated based on the data received from the power management control ECU.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

HINT:
Select the SPORT mode by using the combination switch assembly, the hybrid system indicator changes to the tachometer. Before starting following inspection, confirm that the SPORT mode is selected.

1.CHECK CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM
  1. Check if a CAN communication DTC is output (Click here).

    Result:

2.PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING INTELLIGENT TESTER (TACHO METER OPERATION)
  1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

  1. Turn the power switch on (IG).

  1. Turn the intelligent tester on.

  1. Enter the following menus: Body / Combination Meter / Active Test.

  1. Check the operation by referring to the table below.

    OK:
    Tachometer indication is normal.

3.READ VALUE USING INTELLIGENT TESTER (ENGINE RPM)
  1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

  1. Turn the power switch on (IG).

  1. Turn the intelligent tester on.

  1. Enter the following menus: Body / Combination Meter / Data List.

  1. Check the values by referring to the table below.

    Measurement Item/Range
    Normal Condition
    Diagnostic Note
    Engine Rpm
    Engine speed/Min.: 0 rpm, Max.: 12750 rpm
    600 to 700 rpm (When idling)
    If data received from the ECM exceeds the range that can be displayed on the meter, the meter continues to display the maximum value of the range.

    OK:
    Engine speed displayed on the intelligent tester is almost the same as the tachometer indication.

  1. Record the engine speed displayed on the intelligent tester.

    HINT:
    Check the engine speed when the engine is fully warmed up, and air conditioning and all electrical accessories are off.

4.READ VALUE USING INTELLIGENT TESTER (ENGINE REVOLUTION)
  1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

  1. Turn the power switch on (IG).

  1. Turn the intelligent tester on.

  1. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Data List.

  1. Set the vehicle in the maintenance mode using the intelligent tester (Click here).

  1. Check the values by referring to the table below.

    Engine Revolution
    Engine speed/ Min.: 0 rpm, Max.: 16383.75 rpm
    1. While idling after the engine warmed up and inspection mode: approximately 900 rpm
    2. While driving at a constant speed: no significant fluctuation

    NOTICE:
    Enter the inspection mode (Click here).

    OK:
    Engine speed displayed on the intelligent tester is almost the same as the previously recorded intelligent tester indication (Body / Combination Meter / Data List / Engine Rpm).

5.REPLACE POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU
  1. Replace the power management control ECU with a new or a known good one (Click here).

    OK:
    The operation of the tachometer returns to normal.
