PRECAUTION FOR REGISTRATION

  1. If replacing any of the following parts, refer to the Service Bulletin.

    1. ID code box (immobiliser code ECU)

    2. Certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly)

    3. Transmission control ECU assembly

    4. Electrical key transmitter (key)


SYSTEM FUNCTION

Function
Outline
Ignition function
When the key is brought into the vehicle and verified, this function changes the power source or starts the hybrid control system when the power switch and brake pedal are operated.
Battery saving function for key
If a switch on the key is depressed and held, this function stops transmission of the signal after approximately 20 seconds to save key battery power.
Push-button start cancel function
Cancels the push-button start system when certain operations are performed.
Immobiliser function
Allows the hybrid control system to be started only using registered keys to prevent an unauthorized hybrid control system start.
Automatic power off function
With park (P) selected and the power switch on (ACC) or on (IG) (the hybrid control system is not started and the vehicle is not moving), the power automatically turns off when the vehicle is left as is for 60 minutes or more.

DETECTION AREA

NOTICE:
  1. Depending on the vehicle body shape, the key may not operate in certain locations.
  2. Even if the key is in the vehicle interior key detection area, the key may not be properly detected if the key is on the instrument panel, in the glove box or on the floor.
  3. Depending on the way the key is held, the key may not operate properly.
  4. The key detection area may reduce in size or the key may not be properly detected under the conditions below:
    1. The key battery is depleted.
    2. There are TV towers, electric power plants, broadcasting stations, gas stations or other facilities that produce strong electric waves nearby.
    3. Wireless products such as cell phones, etc. are carried with the key.
    4. The key is covered by or in contact with a metal object.
    5. Electric wave-type keyless entry systems are being operated nearby.
    6. The key is placed near high-voltage equipment or equipment that emits electrical noise.

  1. The detection area inside the vehicle is formed and the key is detected when any of the following conditions are met: 1) The driver side door is opened and closed, 2) the brake pedal is depressed, 3) the power switch is operated, or 4) the conditions required for various warnings are met.

  2. The detection area inside the vehicle when starting the hybrid control system can be customized through the customize function.


WARNING FUNCTION

  1. Warning

    1. When any of the situations below occur, the push-button start system causes the certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) to sound a buzzer in the combination meter assembly, a message to appear on the multi-information display, and the power switch indicator to operate in order to alert the driver.

    2. Situation: The hybrid control system is left running and park (P) has been selected when the driver gets out of the vehicle.
      When the hybrid control system is left running and park (P) has been selected, the driver closes the driver door and attempts to leave the vehicle while holding the key.
      In this situation, the following control is performed:

      Reason for warning
      		Vehicle theft or hybrid control system cannot be restarted, discharged battery
      Warning start condition
      (All conditions are met)
      1. Park (P) has been selected.
      2. The power switch is in a mode other than off.
      3. The key is not in the vehicle.
      4. The driver door is opened → closed.
      5. The vehicle speed is 0 km/h (0 mph).
      Waning description
      1. The buzzer in the combination meter assembly sounds once.
      2. "Key not Detected" is displayed on the multi-information display in the combination meter assembly.
      3. The wireless buzzer sounds 3 times.
      Warning stop condition
      (Either condition is met)
      1. The power switch is turned off.
      2. The key is returned to the vehicle.

    3. Situation: The hybrid control system is left running when a passenger gets out of the vehicle while holding the key.

      1. When the hybrid control system is left running, a passenger leaves the vehicle while holding the key.
        In this situation, the following control is performed:

        Reason for warning
        		Hybrid control system cannot be restarted
        Warning start condition
        (All conditions are met)
        1. The power switch is in a mode other than off.
        2. A door other than the driver door is opened → closed.
        3. The vehicle speed is 0 km/h (0 mph).
        4. The key is not in the vehicle.
        Waning description
        1. The buzzer in the combination meter assembly sounds once.
        2. "Key not Detected" is displayed on the multi-information display in the combination meter assembly.
        3. The wireless buzzer sounds 3 times.
        Warning stop condition
        (Either condition is met)
        1. The power switch is turned off.
        2. The key is returned to the vehicle.

    4. Situation: The key is not in the detection areas.

      1. When the key is not in the vehicle or the key battery is depleted, the driver attempts to start the hybrid control system or turn the power switch on (IG).
        In this situation, the following control is performed:

        Reason for warning
        		Confuses the user
        Warning start condition
        (Both conditions are met)
        1. The power switch is pushed.
        2. The key is not in the vehicle.
        Waning description
        1. The buzzer in the combination meter assembly sounds once.
        2. "Key not detected" is displayed on the multi-information display in the combination meter assembly for 15 seconds.
        Warning stop condition
        (Either condition is met)
        1. The power switch is turned off.
        2. The key is returned to the vehicle.

    5. Situation: The key battery is weak.

      1. The vehicle is driven using a key that has a low battery.
        In this situation, the following control is performed:

        Reason for warning
        		Push-button start system does not function
        Warning start condition
        (Both conditions are met)
        1. The power switch is turned off after being left on (IG) for more than 20 minutes.
        2. The key battery voltage is low.
        Waning description
        1. The buzzer in the combination meter assembly sounds once.
        2. "Key Battery Low" is displayed on the multi-information display in the combination meter assembly for 15 seconds.
        Warning stop condition
        1. The key battery is replaced with a new one.

    6. Situation: The power management ECU is malfunctioning.

      1. A malfunction of the power management control ECU is detected.
        In this situation, the following control is performed:

        Reason for warning
        		Malfunction detection
        Warning start condition
        1. A malfunction of the power management ECU is detected.
        Waning description
        1. The power switch indicator blinks amber at 2-second intervals for 15 seconds.
        Warning stop condition
        1. The power management control ECU returns to normal.

    7. Situation: The hybrid control system does not start. (Situation1)

      1. There are two patterns for this situation.
        1. Pattern 1:
          A warning message appears on the multi-information display when the driver does not follow the proper procedure to start the vehicle.
          In this situation, the following control is performed:

          Reason for warning
          		Usability function
          Warning start condition
          (All conditions are met)
          1. The power switch is turned off.
          2. The driver door is closed → opened.
          3. The power switch is turned from off to on (ACC) more than twice with the hybrid control system off and the brake pedal not depressed.
          Waning description
          1. The buzzer in the combination meter assembly sounds once.
          2. "Depress Brake Pedal and Push Power Switch to Start" is displayed on the multi-information display in the combination meter assembly for 10 seconds.
          Warning stop condition
          1. The power switch is pushed with the brake pedal depressed.
        2. Pattern 2:
          A message indicating how to start the hybrid control system appears on the multi-information display when a shift state in which the hybrid control system cannot be started is selected.
          In this situation, the following control is performed:

          Reason for warning
          		Usability function
          Warning start condition
          (All conditions are met)
          1. The hybrid control system is stopped.
          2. The vehicle speed is 0 km/h (0 mph).
          3. More than 0.5 seconds have elapsed after the power switch is turned on (IG).
          4. The shift state other than park (P).
          Waning description
          1. The buzzer in the combination meter assembly sounds once.
          2. "Shift to P Position to Start" is displayed on the multi-information display in the combination meter assembly.
          Warning stop condition
          (One of conditions is met)
          1. The P position switch (transmission shift main switch) is pushed.
          2. The vehicle speed is above 0 km/h (0 mph).
          3. The power switch is turned off or on (ACC).
          4. The hybrid control system is started.

    8. Situation: The hybrid control system does not start. (Situation2)

      1. There are two patterns for this situation.
        1. Pattern 1:
          When the power switch is pushed, the key cannot be detected in the vehicle two times in a row.
          In this situation, the following control is performed:

          Reason for warning
          		Usability function
          Warning start condition
          (All conditions are met)
          1. The immobiliser system is set.
          2. The key is not in the vehicle.
          3. A key code verification error occurs when the power switch is pushed twice or the doors are unlocked using a mechanical key.
          Waning description
          1. The buzzer in the combination meter assembly sounds once.
          2. "Depress Brake Pedal, Touch Power Switch with Key" is displayed on the multi-information display in the combination meter assembly for 60 seconds.
          Warning stop condition
          (Either condition is met)
          1. The immobiliser system certification result is OK.
          2. The key is returned to the vehicle.
        2. Pattern 2:
          The driver attempts to start the hybrid control system after performing a driver door key linked unlock operation.
          In this situation, the following control is performed:

          Reason for warning
          		Usability function
          Warning start condition
          (All conditions are met)
          1. A driver door key linked unlock operation is performed.
          2. The immobiliser system is set.
          3. The power switch is pushed.
          4. The key is not in the vehicle.
          Waning description
          1. The buzzer in the combination meter assembly sounds once.
          2. "Depress Brake Pedal, Touch Power Switch with Key" is displayed on the multi-information display in the combination meter assembly for 60 seconds.
          Warning stop condition
          (Either condition is met)
          1. The immobiliser system certification result is OK.
          2. The key is returned to the vehicle.

    9. Situation: Immobiliser system certification completion occurs.

      1. A warning message appears on the multi-information display when a key with a depleted battery is touched to the power switch while depressing the brake.
        In this situation, the following control is performed:

        Reason for warning
        		Malfunction detection
        Warning start condition
        1. Key certification result is OK.
        Waning description
        1. The buzzer in the combination meter assembly sounds once.
        2. "Depress Brake Pedal and Push Power Switch to Start" is displayed on the multi-information display in the combination meter assembly for 10 seconds.
        3. The power switch indicator blinks amber.
        Warning stop condition
        (Either condition is met)
        1. The hybrid control system is started.
        2. The key is returned to the vehicle.

    10. Situation: Auto power off operation occurs.

      1. A warning message appears on the multi-information display when automatic power off operation occurs.
        In this situation, the following control is performed:

        Reason for warning
        		Battery saving function
        Warning start condition
        (All conditions are met)
        1. Park (P) has been selected.
        2. The power switch is on (ACC) or on (IG).
        3. The vehicle speed is 0 km/h (0 mph).
        4. The hybrid control system is stopped.
        5. The power source control system is turned off by the automatic power off function.
        Waning description
        1. "Auto Power Off to Conserve Battery" is displayed on the multi-information display in the combination meter assembly for 10 seconds.
        Warning stop condition
        1. The power switch is turned to a mode other than off.

    11. Situation: The vehicle is driven without a key.

      1. A warning message appears on the multi-information display when the vehicle starts moving without the registered key in the vehicle.
        In this situation, the following control is performed:

        Reason for warning
        		Hybrid control system cannot be restarted
        Warning start condition
        1. When vehicle speed is detected after the key is removed from the vehicle, the warning is activated (only for first time).
        Waning description
        1. The buzzer in the combination meter assembly sounds once.
        2. "Key not Detected" is displayed on the multi-information display in the combination meter assembly.
        Warning stop condition
        (Either condition is met)
        1. The power switch is turned off.
        2. The key is returned to the vehicle.
