1. INSPECT ELECTRICAL KEY TRANSMITTER (for Standard)


  1. Inspect the operation of the electrical key transmitter (for Type A).

    1. Remove the battery (lithium battery) from the electrical key transmitter (Click here).

    2. NOTICE:
      When replacing the transmitter battery, before starting work, remove static electricity that has built up in the body by touching, for example, the vehicle to prevent the electrical key transmitter from being damaged.

      Install a new or known good battery (lithium battery) (Click here).

      HINT:
      If a new or known good battery is not available, first connect 2 new 1.5 V batteries in series. Then connect leads to the batteries and apply 3 V to the electrical key transmitter, as shown in the illustration.

    3. From outside the vehicle, approximately 1 m (3.28 ft.) away from the driver side outside door handle, test the electrical key transmitter by pointing its key plate at the vehicle and pressing a electrical key transmitter switch.

      OK:
      The door lock can be operated via the electrical key transmitter.
      The LED comes on more than once.

      1. The operational area differs depending on the user, the way the electrical key transmitter is held, and the location.
      2. The electrical key transmitter's faint electric waves may be affected if the area has strong electric waves or noise. The electrical key transmitter's operation area may be shortened or the electrical key transmitter may not function.



  1. Inspect the battery capacity (for Type A).

    1. Remove the battery (Click here) from the electrical key transmitter that does not operate. Attach a lead wire (0.6 mm (0.0236 in.) in diameter or less including wire sheath) with tape or equivalent to the negative terminal.

      NOTICE:
      Do not wrap the lead wire around a terminal, wedge it between the terminals, or solder it. A terminal may be deformed or damaged, and the battery will not be able to be installed correctly.

    2. Carefully pull the lead wire out from the position shown in the illustration and install the previously removed transmitter battery (Click here).

    3. NOTICE:
      When replacing the transmitter battery, before starting work, remove static electricity that has built up in the body by touching, for example, the vehicle to prevent the electrical key transmitter from being damaged.

      Using an oscilloscope, check the transmitter battery voltage.

      HINT:
      1. When measuring the transmitter battery voltage, while operating the lock sensor of a door handle, bring the electrical key transmitter within the entry operating range to perform the measurement. For the entry operating range, refer to System Description (Click here).*1
      2. Measure the transmitter battery voltage while pressing the LOCK or UNLOCK switch on the electrical key transmitter.*2
      3. Perform the measurement when the key is at room temperature.
      4. The key sends voltage information to the certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) when it is transmitting. When this voltage is 2.1 V or less the Data List item "Key Low Battery" displays "Yes".

      If the result is not as specified, replace the transmitter battery.

      3. Perform the measurement when the key is at room temperature.

2. INSPECT ELECTRICAL KEY TRANSMITTER (for Card Type)


  1. Inspect the operation of the electrical key transmitter.

    1. Remove the battery (lithium battery) from the electrical key transmitter (Click here).

      When replacing the transmitter battery, before starting work, remove static electricity that has built up in the body by touching, for example, the vehicle to prevent the electrical key transmitter from being damaged.

      Install a new or normal battery (lithium battery) (Click here).

      HINT:
      If a new or normal battery is not available, first connect 2 new 1.5 V batteries in series. Then connect leads to the batteries and apply 3 V to the electrical key transmitter, as shown in the illustration.

    3. Hold the electrical key (card type) facing towards the vehicle approximately 1 m (3.28 ft.) away from the driver side front door outside handle assembly and check that the doors lock when the lock sensor on the driver side front door outside handle assembly is touched.

      OK:
      All doors can be locked.

      NOTICE:
      1. Make sure the power switch is off.
      2. Make sure to close all doors.
      3. Do not wedge the tip of the tester lead between the terminals, as a terminal may be deformed or damaged.



  1. Inspect the battery capacity.

    1. Remove the battery (Click here) from the card key that does not operate. Attach a lead wire to the negative (-) and positive (+) side of the battery with tape or equivalent .

      NOTICE:
      Do not wrap the lead wire around a terminal, wedge it between the terminals, or solder it. A terminal may be deformed or damaged, and the battery will not be able to be installed correctly.

    2. Using an oscilloscope, check the transmitter battery voltage waveform.

      HINT:
      When measuring the battery voltage, while operating the lock sensor of a door handle, bring the card key within entry operating range to perform the measurement. For the entry operating range, refer to system description (Click here).

      If the result is not as specified, replace the transmitter battery.

      NOTICE:
      Before measuring the battery voltage, make sure that the positive (+) side of the battery is set towards the LEXUS mark side.
