DESCRIPTION

The indicator light comes on when the P position switch (transmission shift main switch) is pressed (park (P) selected), goes off when a shift state other than park (P) is selected and goes off when a system malfunction occurs. Then an error message is displayed on the multi-information display.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

1.CHECK P POSITION SWITCH (INDICATOR LIGHT)
  1. Turn the power switch on (IG).

  1. Depress the brake pedal and move the shift lever to select neutral (N).

  1. Inspect the indicator light condition by operating the P position switch (transmission shift main switch).

    Result:
    Condition of Indicator Light
    Proceed to
    Indicator light does not go off. (Remains on)
    A
    Indicator light does not come on.
    B

  1. Turn the power switch off.

2.CHECK P POSITION SWITCH (INDICATOR LIGHT)
  1. Disconnect connector A21 from the transmission control ECU assembly.

  1. Turn the power switch on (IG).

  1. Inspect the indicator light condition by operating the P position switch (transmission shift main switch).

    Result:
    Condition of Indicator Light
    Proceed to
    Indicator light does not go off. (Remains on)
    A
    Indicator light goes off.
    B

    NOTICE:
    Turning the power switch on (IG) with the transmission control ECU assembly connector disconnected causes other DTCs to be stored. Clear the DTCs after performing this inspection.

  1. Turn the power switch off.

  1. Connect the transmission control ECU assembly connector.

3.CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (TRANSMISSION CONTROL ECU - P POSITION SWITCH)
  1. Disconnect connector A21 from the transmission control ECU assembly.

  1. Disconnect connector H81 from the P position switch (transmission shift main switch).

  1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

    Standard Resistance (Check for Short):
    Tester Connection
    Switch Condition
    Specified Condition
    A21-20 (IND) or H81-7 (IND-) - Body ground and other terminals
    Power switch off
    10 kΩ or higher

  1. Connect the P position switch (transmission shift main switch) connector.

  1. Connect the transmission control ECU assembly connector.

4.CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (P POSITION SWITCH POWER SOURCE CIRCUIT)
  1. Disconnect the connector from the P position switch (transmission shift main switch).

  1. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

    Standard Voltage:
    Tester Connection
    Switch Condition
    Specified Condition
    H81-6 (IND+) - Body ground
    Power switch off
    9 to 14 V

  1. Connect the P position switch (transmission shift main switch) connector.

5.INSPECT P POSITION SWITCH
  1. Disconnect the connector from the P position switch (transmission shift main switch).

  1. Apply auxiliary battery voltage between terminals H81-6 (IND+) and H81-7 (IND-) and check the indicator light.

    Result:
    Condition
    Specified Condition
    Auxiliary battery voltage applied between terminals H81-6 (IND+) and H81-7 (IND-)
    Comes on

    HINT:
    Terminals No. 1 and No. 8 on the component side connector are empty.

  1. Connect the P position switch (transmission shift main switch) connector.

6.CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (TRANSMISSION CONTROL ECU - P POSITION SWITCH)
  1. Disconnect connector A21 from the transmission control ECU assembly.

  1. Disconnect the connector from the P position switch (transmission shift main switch).
