ECM did not command that the high pressure side fuel pump opens spill valve, but fuel pressure increases 3 MPa (30.6 kgf/cm2, 435 psi) for more than 10 seconds
  1. High pressure side fuel pump
  2. Fuel pressure sensor

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

HINT:
Read freeze frame data using the intelligent tester. Freeze frame data records the engine conditions when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air-fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

1.CHECK OTHER DTCS OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P0088)

  1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

  1. Turn the engine switch on (IG) and turn the tester ON.

  1. Clear DTCs.

  1. Start the engine.

  1. Enter the following menus: Power train / Engine / DTC.

  1. Read the DTCs using the intelligent tester.

If any other codes besides P0088 are output, perform troubleshooting for those DTCs first.

2.CHECK FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR

  1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

  1. Turn the engine switch on (IG) and turn the tester ON.

  1. Start the engine.

  1. Turn the tester ON.

  1. Enter the following menus: Power train / Engine / Data List / Fuel Press.

  1. Check that the fuel pressure fluctuates when the engine is raced.

    OK:
    Fuel pressure fluctuates.

3.REPLACE FUEL PUMP (HIGH PRESSURE)

4.CHECK IF DTC OUTPUT REOCCURS (SEE IF DTC P088 IS OUTPUT AGAIN)

  1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

  1. Turn the engine switch on (IG) and turn the tester ON.

  1. Clear DTCs.

  1. Start the engine.

  1. Enter the following menus: Power train / Engine / DTC.

  1. Read the DTCs using the intelligent tester.
