SELF-CHECK FUNCTION INSPECTION
E107404E01
  1. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

  2. When the clearance sonar system is turned ON, check that the following occurs: 1) after 0.1 milliseconds, the buzzer sounds for approximately 0.8 seconds, and 2) the system starts the obstacle detection operation.

    HINT:
    1. If a sensor has an open circuit or a sensor's detection operation malfunctions because it is wet or frozen, a malfunction display is shown in the multi-information display and multi-display, and the buzzer sounds.
    2. When the sensor condition returns to normal, the system ends normal clearance sonar mode and returns to steering sensing mode.
    3. If the clearance sonar main switch is ON and the engine switch is turned on (IG), the buzzer does not sound.

MALFUNCTION DISPLAY (MULTI-INFORMATION DISPLAY)

  1. Ultrasonic sensor open circuit

    1. If there is an open circuit between the ultrasonic sensor and the clearance warning ECU or a sensor is malfunctioning, the malfunction is displayed as shown in the illustration.

      E107580E01

      HINT:
      1. The example shows an open circuit in the No. 3 ultrasonic sensor (front left sensor).
      2. If a sensor has an open circuit, refer to "open circuit is displayed during self-check function" on the Problem Symptoms Table to inspect it.

  2. Ultrasonic sensor frozen

    1. If a sensor is covered with foreign matter, such as mud or snow, the affected sensor is displayed as shown in the illustration.

      E108059E01

      HINT:
      1. The example shows that the No. 3 ultrasonic sensor (front left sensor) is covered with foreign matter.
      2. If "CLEAN SONAR" is displayed, cleaning the foreign matter from the sensor will return the sensor to normal.

  3. Steering angle information failure display

    1. A malfunction condition is displayed as shown in the illustration if one of the following occurs: 1) the steering sensor is determined to be malfunctioning; 2) the VGRS system*1 is malfunctioning; 3) there is an open circuit between the steering sensor and clearance warning ECU; or 4) as a result of low battery voltage, CAN communication information is blocked.

      E107407E01

      HINT:
      1. *1: Variable gear ratio steering system (3UZ-FE only)
      2. The steering sensor and VGRS system communicate with the clearance warning ECU via the CAN.
      3. When a steering angle information failure occurs, the system enters normal clearance sonar mode.

  4. Steering angle mid-point learning operation display

    1. If the malfunction can be repaired by disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, or performing the steering angle mid-point learning operation again, it is displayed as shown in the illustration.

      E107408E01

      HINT:
      1. When the steering angle mid-point learning operation is complete, the steering sensing function returns to normal.
      2. During the steering angle mid-point learning operation, the system enters normal clearance sonar mode.

MALFUNCTION DISPLAY (MULTI-DISPLAY)
E107414E02
  1. Ultrasonic sensor open circuit

    1. If there is an open circuit between the ultrasonic sensor and the clearance warning ECU or a sensor is malfunctioning, the malfunction is displayed as shown in the illustration.

      HINT:
      1. This example shows an open circuit in the No. 1 ultrasonic sensor (rear right sensor).
      2. If a sensor has an open circuit, refer to "open circuit is displayed during self-check function" on the Problem Symptoms Table to inspect it.

  2. E107413E02
  3. Ultrasonic sensor frozen

    1. If a sensor is covered with foreign matter, such as mud or snow, the affected sensor is displayed as shown in the illustration.

      HINT:
      1. The example shows that the No. 3 ultrasonic sensor (front left sensor) is covered with foreign matter.
      2. If "CLEAN SONAR" is displayed, cleaning the foreign matter from the sensor will return the sensor to normal.

  4. E108061E01
  5. Steering angle information failure display

      HINT:
      1. *1: Variable gear ratio steering system (3UZ - FE only)
      2. The steering sensor and VGRS system communicate with the clearance warning ECU via the CAN.
      3. When a steering angle information failure occurs, the system enters normal clearance sonar mode.
      4. The detection range display labeled *2 appears in normal clearance sonar mode.

  6. E108063E01
  7. Steering angle mid-point learning operation display

DETECTION RANGE MEASUREMENT AND DISPLAY INSPECTION
  1. Detection range measurement

    NOTICE:
Make sure the vehicle does not move by applying the parking brake firmly.

    1. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

    2. Move the shift lever to any position except P or R to check the No. 3 ultrasonic sensors.

      HINT:
The front right center and front left center sensors (No. 3 ultrasonic sensors) do not operate when the shift lever is on R.

    3. Move the shift lever to any position except R to check the No. 1 and No. 2 ultrasonic sensors.

      HINT:
      1. The No. 1 and No. 2 ultrasonic sensors do not operate when the shift lever is in a position other than R.
      2. The front right center and front left center sensors (No. 3 ultrasonic sensors) do not operate when the shift lever is on R.

  2. Turn the clearance sonar main switch ON.

  3. Move a φ 60 mm (2.36 in.) pole near each sensor to measure its detection range.

    E107415E01

    NOTICE:
    1. These detection ranges are applicable when positioning the φ 60 mm (2.36 in.) pole parallel or perpendicular to the ground. The ranges vary depending on the measuring method and type of obstacle (such as walls).
    2. The No. 1 ultrasonic sensor side view detection range's hatched area (labeled *1) represents the cross section of the top view detection range's A lines. The hatched area (*1) does not represent the entire side view detection range.

  4. When the No. 3 ultrasonic sensors have detected an obstacle, check the displays and buzzer sounds.
