REPLACEMENT

1. DISCONNECT REAR PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY (a) Place matchmarks on the propeller shaft and companion flange. (b) Remove the 4 nuts, bolts and washers, and disconnect the propeller shaft. (c) Support the propeller shaft securely.

2. DRAIN HYPOID GEAR OIL

3. REMOVE REAR DRIVE PINION COMPANION FLANGE SUB-ASSEMBLY

(a) Using a chisel and hammer, unstake the nut.

(b) Using SST to hold the flange, remove the nut.

(c) Using SST, remove the companion flange. SST: 09950-30012 09951-03010 09953-03010 09954-03010 09955-03030 09956-03040

4. REMOVE REAR DIFFERENTIAL CARRIER OIL SEAL (a) Using SST, remove the oil seal. SST: 09308-10010

5. REMOVE REAR DIFFERENTIAL DRIVE PINION OIL SLINGER

(a) Remove the oil slinger.

6. REMOVE REAR DRIVE PINION FRONT TAPERED ROLLER BEARING (a) Using SST, remove the front bearing from the drive pinion. SST: 09556-22010

7. REMOVE BEARING OUTER RACE (a) Using SST, remove the bearing outer race. SST: 09308-00010 NOTICE: Do not scratch the tapered surface of the outer race.

8. REMOVE REAR DIFFERENTIAL DRIVE PINION BEARING SPACER

9. INSTALL REAR DIFFERENTIAL DRIVE PINION BEARING SPACER

10. INSTALL BEARING OUTER RACE (a) Using SST and a hammer, install the bearing outer race. SST: 09316-60011 09316-00011 09316-00021

11. INSTALL REAR DRIVE PINION FRONT TAPERED ROLLER BEARING

12. INSTALL REAR DIFFERENTIAL DRIVE PINION OIL SLINGER

(a) Install the oil slinger.

13. INSTALL REAR DIFFERENTIAL CARRIER OIL SEAL (a) Coat the hypoid gear oil to a new oil seal periphery. (b) Using SST and a hammer, install the new oil seal. SST: 09214-76011 Standard depth: 0.5 mm (0.020 in.) (c) Coat the lip of the oil seal with MP grease.

14. INSTALL REAR DRIVE PINION COMPANION FLANGE SUB-ASSEMBLY

(a) Using SST, install the companion flange on the drive pinion.

(b) Coat the threads of a new companion flange nut with gear oil.

(c) Using SST to hold the flange, install a new nut. SST: 09330-00021 Torque: 245 N·m {2,500 kgf·cm, 181ft·lbf}

15. ADJUST DRIVE PINION PRELOAD

16. STAKE DRIVE PINION NUT

17. CONNECT REAR PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY

(a) Align the matchmarks on the propeller shaft and flange.

(b) Install the 4 bolts, washer and nuts.

Torque:

106 N·m {1,080 kgf·cm, 78ft·lbf}

18. REFILL DIFFERENTIAL OIL

Torque:

49 N·m {500 kgf·cm, 36ft·lbf} for filler and drain plug

Oil type:

Hypoid gear oil API GL-5

Recommended oil viscosity:

Above -18°C (0°F) SAE 90

Below -18°C (0°F) SAE 80W- 90 or 80W

Standard capacity:

3.30 liters (3.49 US qts, 2.90 lmp. qts)
