DTC

C1521/21

Motor Circuit Malfunction

DESCRIPTION

The VGRS ECU drives the actuator while turning the steering wheel to set the gear ratio.

It detects the current flowing into the actuator motor driving circuit. When the VGRS ECU detects excessive current, it records the DTC, turns on the VGRS warning light, and stops VGRS operation.

DTC No.

DTC Detection Condition

Trouble Area

More than 60 A of current flows in the motor power source circuit for 0.1 sec. or more.

  • VGRS actuator
  • VGRS ECU

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

HINT:

When DTC C1521/21 is output, a short circuit inside the actuator or inside the ECU is suspected.

PROCEDURE

1.

INSPECT VGRS ACTUATOR

(a) Turn the ignition switch OFF.

(b) Disconnect the V13 actuator connector from the VGRS ECU.

(c) Measure the resistance of the VGRS actuator.

Standard resistance:

Tester Connection

Specified Condition

1 (BMV) - 5 (BMU)

0.1 to 1 Ω

1 (BMV) - 6 (BMW)

5 (BMU) - 6 (BMW)

10 (MV) - 3 (LGND)

1 to 100 Ω

(d) Check the continuity of the actuator connector and body ground.

OK:

Tester Connection

Specified Condition

1 (BMV) - Body ground

No Continuity

5 (BMU) - Body ground

6 (BMW) - Body ground

10 (MV) - Body ground

3 (LGND) - Body ground

NG

REPLACE VGRS ACTUATOR
