DTC

P0606

ECM / PCM Processor

DESCRIPTION

The ECM continuously monitors its internal processors (CPUs), heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) transistors. This self-check ensures that the ECM is functioning properly. This is diagnosed by internal "mirroring" of the main and sub CPUs to detect processor errors. If outputs from the processors deviate from the standard, the ECM will illuminate the MIL and set a DTC immediately.

DTC No.

DTC Detection Condition

Trouble Area

P0606

  • ECM CPUs malfunction
  • HO2S transistors malfunction
  • Exhaust gas leak
  • HO2S
  • ECM

NOTICE:

An exhaust gas leak generates noise in the HO2S output. The ECM may interpret this as an HO2S transistor malfunction and set P0606.

INSPECT DTC (P0136, P0137, P0138, P0156, P0157 OR P0158)

(a) Inspect the P0136, P0137, P0138, P0156, P0157 or P0158 flowchart.

HINT:

  • If P0136 or P0156 is output, troubleshoot for that DTC first 2006 MY LX470 [05/2005 -        ]; 2UZ-FE ENGINE CONTROL SYSTEM: SFI SYSTEM: P0136-P0138,P0156-P0158; Oxygen Sensor Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 2) . Then proceed to "INSPECT ECM".
  • If P0137 or P0157 is output, troubleshoot for that DTC first 2006 MY LX470 [05/2005 -        ]; 2UZ-FE ENGINE CONTROL SYSTEM: SFI SYSTEM: P0136-P0138,P0156-P0158; Oxygen Sensor Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 2) . Then proceed to "INSPECT ECM".

3.

CHECK FOR EXHAUST GAS LEAK

(a) Allow the engine to idle and rev the engine.

(b) Check for exhaust gas leaks around the heated oxygen sensor.

If any exhaust gas leaks are present, repair it and proceed to "PERFORM CONFIRMATION DRIVING PATTERN". If no exhaust gas leaks are present proceed to "PERFORM CONFIRMATION DRIVING PATTERN".

HINT:

  • If no exhaust gas leaks are present, a malfunction in the heated oxygen sensor circuit is suspected.
  • If any exhaust gas leaks are present around the heated oxygen sensor, noise appears in the output voltage of the heated oxygen sensor.

(b) Connect the intelligent tester to the CAN VIM. Then connect the CAN VIM to the DLC3.

(c) Start the engine.

(d) Turn the intelligent tester ON.

(e) Warm up the engine until the engine coolant temperature becomes 75°C (167°F) or more.

(f) Perform the drive pattern.

(1) Accelerate the vehicle to 80 km/h (50 mph) and stop the vehicle.

(2) Drive the vehicle between 60 and 80 km/h (35 and 50 mph) for 5 minutes.

(g) Enter the following menus: DIAGNOSIS / ENHANCED OBD II / DTC INFO / CURRENT CODES.

(h) Read the DTCs.
