DTC
|
P0606
|
ECM / PCM Processor
|
DESCRIPTION
The ECM continuously monitors its internal processors (CPUs), A/F sensor transistors and heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) transistors. This self-check ensures that the ECM is functioning properly. This is diagnosed by internal "mirroring" of the main and sub CPUs to detect processor errors. If outputs from the processors deviate from the standards, the ECM will illuminate the MIL and set a DTC immediately.
|
DTC No.
|
DTC Detection Condition
|
Trouble Area
|
|
P0606
|
-
ECM CPUs malfunction
-
A/F sensor transistors malfunction
-
HO2S transistors malfunction
|
-
Exhaust gas leak
-
HO2S
-
ECM
|
NOTICE:
First check for an exhaust gas leak around the HO2S if P0606 is present. An exhaust gas leak generates noise in the HO2S output. The ECM may interpret this as an HO2S transistor malfunction and set P0606.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE
PROCEDURE
|
1.
|
CHECK FOR ANY OTHER DTCS OUTPUT
|
(a) Connect the intelligent tester to the CAN VIM.
Then connect the CAN VIM to the DLC3.
(b) Turn the engine switch to ON and turn the tester on.
(c) Enter the following menus: DIAGNOSIS / ENHANCED OBD II / DTC INFO / CURRENT CODES.
(d)
Read the DTCs

|
CHECK FOR EXHAUST GAS LEAK
|
(a) Allow the engine to idle, and then rev the engine.
(b) Check for exhaust gas leaks around the heated oxygen sensor.
If any exhaust gas leaks are present, repair them and proceed to "Perform Confirmation Driving Pattern". If no exhaust gas leaks are present, proceed to "Perform Confirmation Driving Pattern".
HINT:
-
If no exhaust gas leaks are present, there may be a malfunction in the heated oxygen sensor circuit.
-
If any exhaust gas leaks are present around the heated oxygen sensor, noise appears in the output voltage of the heated oxygen sensor.

.
(b) Connect the intelligent tester to the CAN VIM.
Then connect the CAN VIM to the DLC3.
(c) Start the engine.
(d) Warm up the engine until the engine coolant temperature becomes 75°C (167°F) or higher.
(e) Perform the driving pattern.
CAUTION:
When performing the confirmation driving pattern, obey all speed limits and traffic laws.
(1) Accelerate the vehicle to 80 km/h (50 mph) and stop the vehicle.
(2) Drive the vehicle between 60 and 80 km/h (35 and 50 mph) for 5 minutes.
(f) Enter the following menus: DIAGNOSIS / ENHANCED OBD II / DTC INFO / CURRENT CODES.
(g) Read the DTCs.
