1. CHECK FUEL PUMP OPERATION AND FUEL LEAKS

  1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position and turn the intelligent tester on.

    NOTICE:
    Do not start the engine.

  1. Select the Active Test mode on the intelligent tester to operate the fuel pump.

    HINT:
    Refer to the intelligent tester operator's manual for further details.

  1. Check that there are no fuel leaks anywhere in the fuel system after performing maintenance.



2. CHECK FUEL PRESSURE

  1. Discharge fuel system pressure (Click here).

  1. Using a voltmeter, measure the battery voltage.

    Standard voltage:
    12 to 14 V

  1. Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery.

  1. Remove the fuel pipe clamp No.1 from the fuel tube connector.

  1. Disconnect the fuel hose from the fuel main tube.

  1. Install SST (pressure gauge and fuel tube connector) as shown in the illustration.

  1. Wipe off any splattered gasoline.

  1. Reconnect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery.

  1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3 (See step 1 (a) to (c)).

  1. Measure the fuel pressure.

    Fuel pressure:
    304 to 343 kPa (3.1 to 3.5 kgf*cm2, 44.1 to 49.7 psi)

    If pressure is higher than the specified range, replace the fuel pressure regulator.
    If pressure is lower than the specified range, check the fuel hoses, fuel hose connections, fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator.

  1. Put the vehicle in the "inspection mode". (Click here)

  1. Start the engine.

  1. Measure the fuel pressure at idle.

    Fuel pressure:
    304 to 343 kPa (3.1 to 3.5 kgf*cm2, 44.1 to 49.7 psi)

    If pressure is not as specified, check the vacuum sensing hose and fuel pressure regulator.

  1. Stop the engine.

  1. Check that the fuel pressure remains as specified for 5 minutes after the engine has stopped.

    Fuel pressure:
    147 kPa (1.5 kgf*cm2, 21 psi) or more

    If pressure is not as specified, check the fuel pump, pressure regulator and injectors.

  1. After checking fuel pressure, disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery and carefully remove the SST to prevent gasoline from splashing.

  1. Reconnect the fuel tube to the fuel main tube.

  1. Install the fuel pipe clamp No.1 to the fuel tube connector.

  1. Check for fuel leaks (Step 1).
