1. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE LEVER

  1. Using a feeler gauge, measure the clearance.

    Standard clearance:
    Less than 0.35 mm (0.014 in.)

    If the clearance is greater than the standard, replace the shim with one of the following sizes.
    Shim Thickness
    Shim Thickness
    0.3 mm (0.012 in.)
    0.9 mm (0.035 in.)
    0.6 mm (0.024 in.)

  1. Using pliers, install the parking brake shoe and shim with a new C-washer.



2. APPLY HIGH TEMPERATURE GREASE

  1. Apply high temperature grease to the areas of the backing plate which make contact with the parking brake shoe.



3. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE HOLD DOWN SPRING NO.1 PIN

  1. Install the parking brake shoe hold down spring No.1 pin to the backing plate.



4. INSTALL REAR AXLE HUB AND BEARING ASSEMBLY

  1. Install the hub and bearing assembly with the 4 bolts.

    Torque:
    75 N*m{ 765 kgf*cm , 55 ft.*lbf }



5. INSTALL REAR AXLE SHAFT NUT
  1. Using a socket wrench (30 mm), install a new rear axle shaft nut.

    Torque:
    294 N*m{ 3,000 kgf*cm , 217 ft.*lbf }

    HINT:
    1. Stake the nut after inspecting for looseness and runout in the following steps.
    2. While applying the brakes, install the rear axle shaft nut.



6. INSTALL REAR SPEED SENSOR

  1. Install the speed sensor with the bolt.

    Torque:
    8.0 N*m{ 82 kgf*cm , 71 in.*lbf }

    NOTICE:
    1. Be careful not to damage the speed sensor.
    2. Prevent foreign matter from adhering to the speed sensor.
    3. Do not twist the sensor wire when installing the sensor.



7. CONNECT PARKING BRAKE NO.3 CABLE ASSEMBLY

  1. Connect the parking brake No.3 cable assembly to the backing plate with the 2 bolts.

    Torque:
    8.0 N*m{ 82 kgf*cm , 71 in.*lbf }



8. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE NO.2 SHOE ASSEMBLY

  1. Using needle-nose pliers, connect the parking brake No.3 cable assembly to the parking brake shoe lever.

    NOTICE:
    Be careful not to damage the parking brake No.3 cable assembly.

  1. Install the parking brake No.2 shoe assembly with the parking brake shoe hold down spring No.2 pin, parking brake shoe hold down spring No.2 cup, parking brake shoe hold down spring and parking brake shoe hold down spring No.1 cup.



9. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE ADJUSTING SCREW SET

  1. Apply high temperature grease to the parking brake shoe adjusting screw set.

  1. Install the parking brake shoe return tension No.2 spring to the parking brake No.1 shoe assembly and parking brake No.2 shoe assembly.

  1. Install the parking brake shoe adjusting screw set to the parking brake No.1 shoe assembly and parking brake No.2 shoe assembly.



10. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE NO.1 SHOE ASSEMBLY

  1. Install the parking brake No.1 shoe assembly with the parking brake shoe hold down spring No.1 pin, parking brake shoe hold down spring No.2 cup, parking brake shoe hold down spring and parking brake shoe hold down spring No.1 cup.



11. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE STRUT
  1. Install the parking brake shoe strut and parking brake shoe strut compression spring to the parking brake No.1 and No.2 parking brake shoe assemblies.

  1. Using needle-nose pliers, install the 2 parking brake shoe return tension No.1 springs.

    HINT:
    Be sure to install the front side spring before the rear side.



12. CHECK PARKING BRAKE INSTALLATION


  1. Make sure that all the parts are installed properly.
    If necessary, reinstall properly.

13. INSPECT REAR AXLE HUB BEARING LOOSENESS

  1. Using a dial indicator, check for looseness near the center of the axle hub.

    Maximum:
    0.05 mm (0.0020 in.)

    NOTICE:
    Ensure that the dial indicator is set at right angles to the measurement surface.

    If looseness exceeds the maximum, replace the axle hub assembly.



14. INSPECT REAR AXLE HUB RUNOUT

  1. Using a dial indicator, check for runout on surface of the axle hub outside the hub bolt.

    Maximum:
    0.07 mm (0.0028 in.)

    NOTICE:
    Ensure that the dial indicator is set at right angles to the measurement surface.

    If runout exceeds the maximum, replace the axle hub assembly.



15. INSTALL REAR DISC
  1. Align the matchmarks on the rear disc and rear axle hub.



16. ADJUST PARKING BRAKE SHOE CLEARANCE
  1. Temporarily install the hub nuts.

  1. Remove the shoe adjusting hole plug.

  1. Turn the shoe adjuster and expand the shoe until the disc locks.

  1. Turn and contract the shoe adjuster until the disc can rotate smoothly.

    Standard:
    Return 8 notches

  1. Check that there is no brake drag against the shoe.

  1. Install the shoe adjusting hole plug.

  1. Remove the hub nuts.



17. INSTALL REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY

  1. Install the rear disc brake caliper assembly with the 2 bolts.

    Torque:
    78 N*m{ 795 kgf*cm , 58 ft.*lbf }

    NOTICE:
    Do not twist the flexible hose .



18. INSTALL REAR WHEEL

Torque:
103 N*m{ 1,050 kgf*cm , 76 ft.*lbf }



19. INSPECT PARKING BRAKE PEDAL TRAVEL
  1. Fully depress the parking brake pedal and release it to engage the parking brake.

  1. Depress the pedal to the floor again, and release it to disengage the parking brake.

  1. Slowly depress the parking brake pedal to the floor, and count the number of clicks.

    Standard:
    5 to 7 notches at 300 N (31 kgf, 68.3 lbf)



20. ADJUST PARKING BRAKE PEDAL TRAVEL

  1. Depress the parking brake pedal. Hold the wire adjusting No.1 nut using a wrench and loosen the lock nut.

  1. Release the parking brake pedal.

  1. Turn the wire adjusting No.1 nut until the parking brake pedal travel meets the standard.

  1. Hold the wire adjusting No.1 nut using a wrench or equivalent tool and tighten the lock nut.

    Torque:
    6.0 N*m{ 61 kgf*cm , 53 in.*lbf }

  1. Count the number of clicks after depressing and releasing the parking brake pedal 3 or 4 times.

  1. Check whether the parking brake drags.

  1. When operating the parking brake pedal, check that the parking brake indicator light comes on.



21. CHECK ABS SPEED SENSOR SIGNAL
