THEFT DETERRENT SYSTEM > ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION

1. OUTLINE OF THEFT DETERRENT SYSTEM
  1. When the theft deterrent system detects that the vehicle is being tampered with, the system sets off the alarm, causing the horns to sound and the lights to light up or blink in order to alert people around the vehicle to the theft.

  1. Each mode has 4 states; a disarmed state, an arming preparation state, an armed state and an alarm sounding state.

    1. Disarmed state:

      1. The alarm function is not operating.
      2. The theft deterrent system is not operating.

    2. Arming preparation state:

      1. The time until the system goes into the armed state.
      2. The theft deterrent system is not operating.

    3. Armed state:

      1. The theft deterrent system is operating.

        HINT:
Europe only:If the vehicle remains in a condition that sets off the alarm (any door remains open, engine hood remains open, ignition switch remains directly connected) after the alarm ends, that alarm will be set off repeatedly a maximum of 10 times for every one of the above specified conditions.

    4. Alarm sounding state:

      1. Alarm function is operating.

      Alarm time:
      Approx. 30 sec.

Refer to table below for alarm method and time:
      Alarm Method
      Headlight
      Blinking
      (Except for Europe)

      (Maximum 10 times (Europe only))

      HINT:
If any of the doors are unlocked with no key in the ignition key cylinder during the armed state, a forced door lock signal will be output (see FORCED DOOR LOCK CONTROL).

2. ACTIVE ARMING MODE

HINT:
  1. Active arming mode starts the alarm control immediately after the doors are locked.
  2. This system activates as described in the diagram below when one of items for each condition is met.

  1. Active arming mode

    Condition
    Item
    Condition (1)
(No key in ignition key cylinder)
    1. With all doors and engine hood closed, lock all doors by key operation.
    2. With all doors and engine hood closed, lock all doors by wireless operation.
    3. With any door open, close all doors and lock all doors by the key-less lock system.
    Condition (2)
    1. With all doors and engine hood closed, lock all doors. Allow approx. 30 sec. to elapse.
    Condition (3)
    1. Unlock any door by wireless operation.
    2. Unlock any door by key operation.
    3. Unlock any door.
    4. Open any door.
    5. Open engine hood.
    6. Open back door.
    7. Insert key into ignition key cylinder.
    8. Reconnect battery.
    9. Turn ignition switch from OFF to ON.
    Condition (4)
    1. Open engine hood.
    2. Open back door.
    3. Reconnect battery.
    4. Open any door.
    5. Unlock any door without key and wireless operation.
    6. Directly connect ignition switch without key (or turn ignition switch ON without key).
    Condition (5)
    1. Unlock any door by wireless operation.
    2. Unlock any door by key operation.
    3. Insert key into ignition key cylinder and turn ignition switch from OFF to ON.
    Condition (6)
    1. After approx. 35 sec., alarm stops and system returns to armed state.

3. FORCED DOOR LOCK CONTROL
  1. The forced door lock control prevents the vehicle from being tampered with. Immediately after a door is unlocked (alarm starts), the door is forced to lock by a forced door lock signal.

    1. Conditions that force the doors to lock:
No key is in the ignition key cylinder and both of the following conditions are met.

      1. The theft deterrent system is in the alarm sounding state of active arming mode.
      2. Any door is unlocked.

        HINT:
Europe only: Forced door lock control does not operate if any door is unlocked by key operation.

4. SECURITY INDICATOR OUTPUT
  1. The multiplex network body ECU outputs a signal to light up the security indicator, according to the state of the theft deterrent system. However, some of the actual lighting conditions of the security indicator are different from the output signals of the multiplex network body ECU.

    Output:
    State of Theft Deterrent System
    Security Indicator
    Output Signals from Body ECU
    Actual Lighting Condition
    Disarmed state (1), (2)

    OFF

    HINT:
    1. When the immobilizer system is set, the security indicator blinks during both the disarmed state and the armed state, due to the output signals from the immobilizer system.

5. INTRUSION (THEFT WARNING) SENSOR (FOR EUROPE)
  1. An intrusion sensor is provided in the front interior light located in the front of the vehicle interior.

  1. Intrusion sensor consists of intrusion sensor OFF switch, 4 microphone (transmitter and receiver) and ultrasonic sensor (amplifier and CPU). In this sensor, the ultrasonic waves are output by the transmitter microphone and input by the receiver microphone. The CPU determines that an intrusion has taken place by detecting the changes in the ultrasonic waves that have been amplified by the amplifier.

  1. The theft deterrent ECU activates the intrusion sensor when the system changes from the disarmed state to the armed preparation state. If an intrusion detection signal is input from the intrusion sensor during the armed state, the ECU changes to the alarm state in order to output an alarm.

  1. When the system is in the disarmed state, the function of the intrusion sensor can be disabled by pressing the intrusion sensor OFF switch. If the system changes from this state to the armed preparation state, the intrusion sensor will not activate.

    NOTICE:
The intrusion sensor returns to ON (initial state) when the doors are unlocked by the wireless operation.

6. THEFT WARNING (SELF-POWER) SIREN
  1. The theft warning siren has an internal battery. If any of the vehicle's battery or communication lines are opened, the theft warning siren detects it by itself and sounds. Although the theft warning siren usually sounds by receiving a signal from the multiplex network body ECU, the theft warning siren can sound using its internal battery in case that the circuit of the vehicle's battery is opened.

  1. The multiplex network body ECU sends an arming signal to the theft warning siren while switching to the armed state, as well as sending a disarming signal to the siren while switching to the disarmed state. Additionally, the multiplex network body ECU can sound the theft warning siren by sending an alarm signal in the alarm sounding state.
