REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

Without Air Bag

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Remove the horn pad button fasteners. If equipped with a 4 spoke steering wheel, pull the center cap toward the wheel top.
2. Detach the wire harness connectors for the horn and/or cruise control switches from the horn pad. Remove the pad.

3. Make matchmarks on the steering wheel and steering shaft. Never strike the steering shaft with a hammer, as damage to the column may result.
4. Remove the wheel using a suitable puller.
5. Installation is the reverse of removal. Torque the steering wheel nut to 36 ft. lbs. (49 Nm).

With Air Bag

1. Disarm the air bag.
2. Turn the steering wheel to position the wheels in a straight-ahead position.

   Fig. 4: Tilt the top of the air bag module outwards and detach the module, horn and/or cruise control wire harness connections

   Fig. 5: If equipped, unhook the air bag tether from the cast in hook (arrow) on the steering wheel

3. At the back of the steering wheel hub, remove the nuts/bolts that hold the air bag assembly and tilt the top of the air bag outward.
4. Detach the wire harness connectors for the air bag, horn and/or cruise control switches. Remove the air bag module and place the it in a safe place, pad side up.

5. Matchmark the wheel to the shaft and remove the nut. Use a puller to remove the wheel.
6. When installing the steering wheel, the clockspring must be reset.
   1. Make sure the front wheels are straight-ahead.
   2. Turn the clockspring all the way to the right (clockwise).
   3. Turn the clockspring back (counterclockwise) about 2 ³⁄₄ turns and align the marks.
   4. Feed the wiring through the and install the steering wheel.

7. Torque the steering wheel nut to 36 ft. lbs. (49 Nm). Install the air bag unit and arm the system.
