Heater Core

Removal & Installation

To Remove:

NOTE: If you suspect a leak in the heater core, it must be leak tested before it is removed from the vehicle.

  1. Remove the evaporator core housing and the instrument panel.
  2. Drain the radiator.
  3. Disconnect the heater hoses from the heater core.
  4. Remove the nuts and the plenum chamber.
  5. Remove the screws and heater core cover.
  6. Remove the heater core.

To Install:

NOTE: In the installation procedure, install a new foam oval seal around the heater core outlet and inlet tubes.

NOTE: Use some Ford Rubber Suspension Insulator Lube (#E25Y-19553-A), or a suitable equivalent, to lubricate the hoses and fittings.

  1. Install the heater core.
  2. Install the heater core cover and screws.
  3. Correctly position the plenum chamber then install the nuts onto the engine side of the dash panel.
  4. Connect the heater hoses from the heater core.
  5. Properly refill the radiator.
  6. Install the instrument panel and the evaporator core housing
