Removal & Installation

To Remove:

CAUTION
Refrigerant compressor oil (mineral oil) (F73Z-19577-AA or Motorcraft YN-9-A) should be used ONLY to lubricate R-134a refrigerant system O-ring seals and should not be added to the R-134a refrigerant system as an A/C compressor lubricant. Only PAG refrigerant compressor oil (F7AZ-19589-DA or Motorcraft YN-12-C) or an equivalent meeting the manufacturer’s specification should be used as an A/C compressor lubricant.

NOTE: If you suspect there may be a leak in the condenser core, it must be leak-tested before it is removed from the vehicle.

NOTE:  It is not required to install a new suction accumulator when repairing the air conditioning system, except when there are signs of system contamination from a failed A/C compressor or damage to the suction accumulator.

1. Recover the refrigerant.
2. Remove the air cleaner outlet tube.
3. Disconnect the compressor manifold and tube assembly from the compressor-to-condenser discharge line and throw away the O-ring seal.
4. Disconnect the condenser-to-evaporator line from the condenser core. Throw away the O-ring seal.
5. Disconnect the compressor-to-condenser discharge line from the condenser core. Throw away the O-ring seal.
6. Remove the screws and tilt back the radiator.
7. Remove the pin-type retainers and the top seal.

   NOTE: You may need to remove the radiator from the mounting saddles in order to provide enough clearance for removal of the condenser core.

8. Remove the screws and condenser core.

To Install:

NOTE: When installing the new O-ring seals, lubricate them in clean mineral oil.

CAUTION
Make sure to lubricate the refrigerant system with the correct amount of clean PAG oil.

1. Install the condenser core and screws.
   • Torque to 9 ft-lb (12 Nm).
2. Install the top seal and pin-type retainers.
3. Install the radiator and screws.
   • Torque to 62 in-lb (7 Nm).
4. Connect the compressor-to-condenser discharge line from the condenser core using a new O-ring seal.
   • Torque to 71 in-lb (8 Nm).
5. Connect the condenser-to-evaporator line to the condenser core. Throw away the O-ring seal.
   • Torque to 71 in-lb (8 Nm).
6. Connect the compressor manifold and tube assembly to the compressor-to-condenser discharge line and throw away the O-ring seal.
   • Torque to 71 in-lb (8 Nm).
7. Install the air cleaner outlet tube.
8. Fill the system with refrigerant.
9. Evacuate, leak test, and charge the refrigerant system.
