Distributor

REMOVAL

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Remove the ignition wire cover, if equipped.
  2. Tag and disconnect the spark plug wires from the distributor cap.
  3. Position the engine so No. 1 piston is at TDC on its compression stroke. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4. Detach the distributor harness electrical connector.
  5. Unscrew the distributor cap hold-down screws or release the clips and lift off the distributor cap with all ignition wires still connected. Remove the coil wire, if necessary.
  6. Matchmark the rotor to the distributor housing and the distributor housing to the engine.

    NOTE: Do not crank the engine during this procedure. If the engine is cranked, the matchmark must be disregarded.

  7. Remove the hold-down nut.
  8. Carefully remove the distributor from the engine.
