TESTING

With the engine running at idle, use a stethoscope or similar tool to listen to the individual injectors. With the stethoscope, each injector should exhibit a distinct clicking as it functions. The speed of the clicking should increase with engine speed. Note that other injectors may be heard through a non-functioning injector.

To check the resistance of each injector, perform the following:

  1. Turn the ignition to the OFF position.

Fig. 1: Measure the resistance of each fuel injector

  2. Disconnect the injector harness from the injector to be tested.
  3. Measure the resistance across the injector terminals. Reference resistances are:
    1. All non-turbo engines, except 1995–98 2.0L engines: 13–16 ohms at 68°F (20°C).
    2. Turbocharged engines: 2–3 ohms at 68 degrees F.
    3. 1995–98 2.0L non-turbo engines:11–15 ohms at 68°F (20°C).
  4. Reconnect the injector wiring harness.
