REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

Front Seats

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. If equipped with power seats and the motor doesn't work, perform the following to slide the seat in order to access the retainers:
    1. Unfasten the bolts that secure the gear box to the left and right ends of the rails.
    2. Remove the gear shaft from the left side. Pull the gear box at the right side toward you, to detach the gear from the side rail.
    3. Use your hand to push the seat to a position where the mounting nuts and bolts can be removed.

  3. For 1990–94 vehicles, remove the mounting screw and the side rail anchor cover.
  4. Remove the seat anchor covers.
  5. Disconnect the electrical connector from the seat, if equipped.
  6. Unfasten the seat mounting nuts and bolts, then remove the seat from the vehicle.

    To install:

  7. Install the seat into the vehicle. Make sure the seat adjusters on both sides of the seat are locked in position.
  8. Provisionally tighten the front mounting nuts first. After the front fasteners have been tightened, temporarily tighten the rear seat mounting bolts.

  9. Tighten the front seat mounting nuts to 26 ft. lbs. (36 Nm) for 1990–94 vehicles or to 22 ft. lbs. (29 Nm) for 1995–98 vehicles. Tighten the rear mounting bolts to 40 ft. lbs. (55 Nm) for 1990–94 vehicles or to 33 ft. lbs. (44 Nm) for 1995–98 vehicles.
  10. Install the seat anchor covers. On 1995–98 vehicles, insert the rear tab of the seat anchor cover in the front seat rear mounting bracket. Then rotate the cover in the direction of the arrow (shown in the accompanying figure) to install the side tabs in the side holes of the bracket.

  11. For 1990–94 vehicles, install the seat side rail covers. Secure the rear pawl of the slider rail anchor cover to the mounting bracket on the rear of the slider rail and position over the rail.

  12. If equipped with power seats, attach the electrical harness connector.
  13. Connect the negative battery cable.
Rear Seat

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. To remove the rear seat cushion, pull the levers under both side seat cushions and lift upward.

  3. Remove the seat cushions from the vehicle.
  4. Remove the seat back cushion retainer bolts. Release the lock from the striker and remove the seat back cushions from the vehicle.

    To install:

  5. Install the seat back cushions into the vehicle. Align the mounting bolt holes and install bolts loosely.
  6. Press the seat back cushion into the striker assembly. Tighten the retainers to the specifications shown in the accompanying figures.
  7. Install the rear seat cushion as follows:
    1. Securely insert the attachment wire of the rear seat cushion under the hinge bracket of the seat back.
    2. Guide the seat belt buckles through the back seat cushions.
    3. Securely insert the hook of the seat cushion into the seat support bracket in the floor of the vehicle. Make sure the hooks are locked in place.
  8. Connect the negative battery cable.
