Upper Ball Joint

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

Montero and Montero Sport

1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
2. Remove the front wheel.
3. Support the lower control arm.
4. Remove the upper ball joint from the steering knuckle.
5. Remove the ball joint from the upper control arm.

   To install:

6. Install the ball joint in the upper control arm. Tighten the bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm)
7. Install the ball joint stud to the steering knuckle. Torque the nut to 54 ft. lbs. (74 Nm).
8. Install a new cotter pin.
9. Install the front wheel.
10. Grease the upper ball joint and all other suspension components with a grease fitting.
