Removal & Installation

To Remove:

Fuel injector assembly

  1. To prevent fuel discharge, reduce the fuel pressure in the fuel lines as follows:
  2. Remove the engine cover.
  3. Remove the intake manifold plenum.
  4. Disconnect the connectors for the Fuel Injector.
  5. Disconnect the connector for the vacuum hose.
  6. Disconnect the fuel return hose connection.
  7. Remove the Fuel Pressure Regulator.

  8. Remove the connection for the high-pressure fuel hose.

    High-pressure fuel hose connection

  9. Remove the fuel pipe.

    CAUTION
When removing the fuel rail and injectors, be extremely careful not to drop the injectors.

  10. Remove the fuel rail with the injectors still attached to it.
  11. Remove the insulators and grommets.

Fuel injector

To Install:

Fuel injector assembly

  1. Install the insulators and grommets.
  2. Before installing the O-ring onto the fuel injector, lubricate the O-ring with clean engine oil. Turn the injector to the left and right to install it into the fuel rail.

    CAUTION
Make sure not to get engine oil into the fuel rail.

    Fuel Injector

  3. Make sure the injector turns smoothly. If it does not, the O-ring might be trapped, so remove the injector and insert it again, then check to make sure it turns smoothly.
  4. Install the fuel pipe.
  5. Before connecting the high-pressure fuel hose to the fuel rail, lubricate the O-ring with clean engine oil. Be careful not to damage the O-ring during installation.

    CAUTION
Make sure not to get engine oil into the fuel rail.

    High-pressure fuel hose connection

  6. Make sure the high-pressure fuel hose turns smoothly. If it does not, the O-ring might be trapped, so remove the high-pressure fuel hose and insert it into the fuel rail again, then check to make sure it turns smoothly. Tighten the bolts to 43 in-lb (4.9 Nm).
  7. Before connecting the Fuel Pressure Regulator to the fuel rail, lubricate the O-ring with clean engine oil. Be sure not to damage the O-ring during installation.

    CAUTION
Make sure not to get engine oil into the fuel rail.

    Fuel pressure regulator connection

  8. Make sure the Fuel Pressure Regulator turns smoothly. If it does not, the O-ring might be trapped, so remove the Fuel Pressure Regulator and insert it again, then check to make sure it turns smoothly. Tighten the bolts to 78 in-lb (8.8 Nm).
  9. Connect the fuel return hose connection.
  10. Connect the connector for the vacuum hose.
  11. Connect the connectors for the fuel injector.
  12. Install the Intake manifold plenum.
  13. Install the engine cover.
  14. Correctly and safely return the fuel lines to their proper pressure level.
  15. Inspect the components and systems to make sure there is no fuel leaking.
