Steering Wheel

Removal & Installation

To Remove:

Steering wheel and shaft

  1. Safely and carefully remove the air bag.
  2. Properly remove the air bag module.
  3. Remove the steering wheel retaining nut.
  4. Remove the spring washer and the flat washer.

  5. Using a special tool (MB990803), remove the steering wheel.
  6. Remove the cruise control switch and the lock release handle.
  7. Remove the instrument panel lower cover.
  8. Remove the key cylinder panel.
  9. Remove the lower column cover and the upper column cover.
  10. Remove the clock spring and column switch assembly.
  11. Remove the cover.
  12. Remove the key interlock cable (shift lock).

  13. Right before installing the retainer mounting bolt, coat the mounting hole on the toe board with Three-bond 1104 sealant or an equivalent. See illustration for location.
  14. Remove the Steering Column assembly.

To Install:

Steering Wheel and shaft

  1. Install the Steering Column assembly.
  2. Remove the retainer mounting bolt.
  3. Install the key interlock cable (shift lock).
  4. Install the cover.
  5. Install the clock spring and column switch assembly.
  6. Install the upper column cover and the lower column cover.
  7. Install the key cylinder panel.
  8. Install the instrument panel lower cover and the lock release handle.
  9. Install the cruise control switch.

  10. Install the steering wheel.
  11. Install the flat washer and the spring washer.
  12. Install the steering wheel retaining nut.
  13. Properly install the air bag module.
