Master Cylinder

Removal & Installation

To Remove:

  1. Remove the reservoir cap assembly.
  2. Remove the diaphragm.
  3. Remove the brake fluid level sensor.
  4. Remove the reservoir bolt, the reservoir, and the reservoir seals.
  5. On vehicles with ABS, remove the piston stopper pin while depressing the piston.
  6. On vehicles without ABS, remove the piston stopper bolt while depressing the piston, and then remove the gasket.

    CAUTION
    The primary and secondary piston assemblies must not be disassembled.

  7. Remove the primary piston assembly.
  8. Remove the secondary piston assembly.
  9. Remove the master cylinder body.

To Install:

  1. Install the master cylinder body.

    CAUTION
    The primary and secondary piston assemblies must not be disassembled.

  2. Install the secondary piston assembly.
  3. Install the primary piston assembly.
  4. On vehicles without ABS, install the gasket then install the piston stopper bolt.
  5. On vehicles with ABS, install the piston stopper pin by aligning the piston relief in the secondary piston with the piston stopper pin locating hole and push the piston into the bore. Next, push the primary piston into the bore and then while depressing the primary piston, drop the piston stopper pin through the locating hole into the secondary piston relief.

    NOTE: Make sure the pin goes all the way through the secondary piston and locates in the bottom of the master cylinder bore.

  6. Install the reservoir seals, reservoir, and reservoir bolt.
  7. Install the brake fluid level sensor.
  8. Install the diaphragm.
  9. Install the reservoir cap assembly.
