Drive Belt

Removal & Installation

2.4L Engine
A/C & Power Steering Belt

To Remove:

Power steering pump belt (2.4L without A/C)

A/C & Power steering pump belt (2.4L with A/C)

NOTE: Mark the rotation direction on the belt if re-using the belt.

  1. Loosen the tensioner pulley center bolt.
  2. Turn the adjusting bolt to loosen the tension on the belt.
  3. Remove the belt.

To Install:

  1. Install the belt on the pulleys.
  2. Tighten the adjusting bolt to tension the belt.
  3. Apply approximately 22 pounds (100 N) of force to the middle of the drive belt between the power steering and the crankshaft pulley and check that the amount of deflection is within the standard value of: 0.49 - 0.56 in. (12.5 – 14.3 mm) for a used belt or 0.35 - 0.43 in. (8.8 – 11.0 mm) for a new belt.
  4. When the specified amount of deflection is achieved, tighten the tensioner bolt .
Generator & Water Pump Belt

To Adjust:

Generator & water pump belt (2.4L)

  1. Apply approximately 22 pounds (100 N) of force to the middle of the drive belt between the generator and water pump pulley and check that the amount of deflection is within the standard value of: 0.26 - 0.35 in. (6.7 – 9.0 mm).
  2. Loosen or tighten the generator to achieve the specified amount of deflection.
3.0L Engine
Generator & A/C Compressor Belt

To Adjust:

Generator & A/C compressor belt removal/installation (3.0L)

  1. Apply approximately 22 pounds (100 N) of force to the middle of the drive belt between the A/C compressor and crankshaft pulley and check that the amount of deflection is within the standard value of: 0.33 - 0.43 in. (8.5 – 10.9 mm).
  2. Loosen or tighten the generator to achieve the specified amount of deflection.
