Adjustment

Parking brake cable adjustment

  1. Pull the parking brake lever with a force of approximately 44 pounds (196 N) and count the number of clicks.
  2. Specified value:
  3. If the parking brake lever stroke is not as specified remove the console cup tray or arm rest and loosen the adjusting nut to the end of the cable rod.
  4. If equipped with rear drum brakes press the brake pedal repeatedly until the stroke no longer changes to automatically adjust the rear brake shoes.
  5. If equipped with rear disc brakes, perform the following;

    NOTE: If the parking brake lever stroke is below the standard value and the braking is too firm, the rear brakes may drag.

  6. Turn the adjusting nut at the lever to adjust the parking brake lever stroke to the specified value. After adjusting, check that there is no space between the adjusting nut and the parking brake lever.
  7. After adjusting the parking brake lever stroke, raise the rear of the vehicle and make sure the rear wheels turn free when the parking brake is released.
