Pull the parking brake lever with a force of approximately 44 pounds (196 N) and count the number of clicks.
Specified value:
With rear drum brake: 5 to 7 notches
With rear disc brake: 3 to 5 notches
If the parking brake lever stroke is not as specified remove the console cup tray or arm rest and loosen the adjusting nut to the end of the cable rod.
If equipped with rear drum brakes press the brake pedal repeatedly until the stroke no longer changes to automatically adjust the rear brake shoes.
If equipped with rear disc brakes, perform the following;
Remove the adjustment plug from the front of the rotor/drum.
Rotate the adjuster with a flat-tip screwdriver in the direction shown to expand the brake shoes against the drum so the drum will not turn.
Rotate the adjuster in the opposite direction five notches.
Parking brake shoe adjustment
NOTE: If the parking brake lever stroke is below the standard value and the braking is too firm, the rear brakes may drag.
Turn the adjusting nut at the lever to adjust the parking brake lever stroke to the specified value. After adjusting, check that there is no space between the adjusting nut and the parking brake lever.
After adjusting the parking brake lever stroke, raise the rear of the vehicle and make sure the rear wheels turn free when the parking brake is released.
