Removal & Installation

2.4L Engine

To Remove:

Thermostat removal/installation (2.4L)

  1. Drain the engine coolant.
  2. Remove the air cleaner.

    NOTE: When disconnecting the radiator lower hose connection, put mating marks on the radiator lower hose and hose clamp before you disconnect them.

  3. Remove the water inlet fitting.
  4. Remove the thermostat.

To Install:

  1. Install the thermostat so the jiggle valve is facing straight up. Make sure not to fold or scratch the rubber ring.

    CAUTION
    Be certain that no oil gets onto the rubber ring of the thermostat. Also be cautious not to scratch or fold the rubber ring as you install it.

  2. Install the water inlet fitting.
  3. When connecting the radiator lower hose connection, do the following:
3.8L Engine

To Remove:

Thermostat removal/installation (3.8L)

  1. Drain the engine coolant.
  2. Remove the engine cover.
  3. Remove the ECM or PCM.
  4. Remove the air cleaner.
  5. Remove the strut tower brace.
  6. Remove the battery and tray.
  7. Remove the wiring harness mounting bolts.

    NOTE: When disconnecting the radiator lower hose connection, put mating marks on the radiator lower hose and hose clamp before you disconnect them.

  8. Disconnect the lower radiator hose from the inlet fitting.
  9. Remove the water inlet fitting.
  10. Remove the thermostat.

To Install:

  1. Install the thermostat so the jiggle valve is facing straight up. Make sure not to fold or scratch the rubber ring.

    CAUTION
    Be certain that no oil gets onto the rubber ring of the thermostat. Also be cautious not to scratch or fold the rubber ring as you install it.

  2. Install the water inlet fitting.
  3. When connecting the radiator lower hose connection, do the following:
  4. Install the wiring harness bolts.
  5. Install the battery and tray.
  6. Install the strut tower brace.
  7. Install the air cleaner.
  8. Install the ECM or PCM.
  9. Install the engine cover.
  10. Refill the cooling system.
