FILTER REPLACEMENT

4-Cylinder Gasoline Engines
  1. Remove the wing nut with your fingers. Pliers should be used only if it has been tightened excessively.
  2. Disconnect the vacuum hose connected to the top of the air cleaner assembly.
  3. Unsnap and then disconnect the three clips from the upper body.
  4. Remove the top of the air cleaner and remove the cartridge.

  5. Wipe out the filter housing with a clean rag.
  6. Install the new cartridge squarely so that it seats properly. Install the air cleaner lid over the wing nut stud, aligning the arrow on the top with the arrow on the air intake tube. Install the wing nut finger-tight.
  7. Hook, then lock all clips and hoses.
Diesel Engine
  1. Unsnap the three finger clips and unhook the lower ends. Pull the top of the air cleaner upward or toward you and away from the air cleaner body. The flex hose will give you enough freedom of motion to permit you to do this without disconnecting it from the air cleaner top.
  2. Pull the filter cartridge out of the air cleaner body.
  3. Install the new filter so that it seats properly in the air cleaner body. Then, install the top squarely on the lower body, hook the clips and lock them. If any of the clips are hard to lock, recheck the position of the top on the lower body. If it is not positioned properly, it will not seal effectively and the clips may be damaged.
6-Cylinder Gasoline Engines
  1. Loosen the hose clamp that connects the intake flexible hose to the air cleaner cover. Separate the hose from the cover.
  2. Unfasten the air flow sensor multi-connectors.
  3. Release the air cleaner cover clips. Move the flexible air intake out of the way to allow you to remove the air cleaner cover. Remove the air cleaner cover carefully because it contains the air flow sensor.
  4. Remove the air cleaner element from the housing and wipe the housing clean with a rag.
  5. Place the new filter element into the housing making sure that it seats properly.
  6. Replace the air cleaner cover and plug the air flow sensor multi-connectors in. Connect the air intake hose to the air cleaner cover and tighten the hose clamp.
