Timing Belt

INSPECTION

WARNING
Do not bend or twist the timing belt. If the timing belt breaks while driving or crankshaft and camshaft are turned separately after the timing belt is removed, valves may strike piston heads causing engine damage. Make sure the timing belt and tensioner assembly are clean and free from oil and water.

On all gasoline engines replace the timing belt at 60,000 miles (96,000 km), and on all diesel engines replace the timing belt at 50,000 miles (80,000 km). Refer to Section 3 for removal and installation service procedures.
