The kickdown band adjusting screw is located on the left side of the transmission
case.
- Loosen the locknut and back the nut off approximately five turns. Make sure
the screw turns freely within the transmission case.
- Using a torque wrench, tighten the adjusting screw to 72 inch lbs. (8 Nm).
- Back the adjusting screw out 27/8turns. Hold the adjusting screw in place,
then tighten the locknut to 30 ft. lbs. (41 Nm).

- Raise the vehicle and safely support it on jackstands.
- Loosen the transmission pan, drain the fluid into a container and remove
the pan from the transmission.
- Loosen the adjusting screw and locknut, then back the nut off approximately
five turns. Test the adjusting screw for free turning in the lever.
- Tighten the band adjusting screw to 30 inch lbs. (3.5 Nm).
- Back the adjusting screw out 6 turns. Hold the adjusting screw in this position,
and tighten the locknut to 25 ft. lbs. (34 Nm).
- Reinstall the transmission pan using a new gasket. Tighten the transmission
pan bolts to 12.5 ft. lbs. (17 Nm).
- Fill the transmission with the specified fluid.
| Fig. 2: To gain access to the low-reverse band adjusting
screw, the transmission pan must be removed — make
sure to have new gaskets for reassembly
