Code No.C1505:
Steering wheel sensor malfunction

OPERATION
The steering wheel sensor output signal is sent to the ABS/Active stability control
system-ECU via the private CAN bus line.
DIAGNOSIS CODE SET CONDITIONS
The ABS/Active stability control system-ECU monitors the signals from the steering
wheel sensor. If the sensor creates an abnormal signal, the system interprets as a failure and
sets the diagnosis code.
PROBABLE CAUSES
- Malfunction of the steering wheel sensor
- Malfunction of the steering wheel sensor installation.
- Malfunction of the steering wheel sensor calibration.
- Malfunction of the hydraulic unit (integrated with ABS/Active stability
control system-ECU)

STEP 1. M.U.T.-III data list

| caution |
Before connecting or disconnecting the M.U.T.-III, turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK"
(OFF) position.
Use the Data List to check the steering wheel sensor signal with centre the front wheels.
Check whether the Data List shows deviation of within ± 5° from the neutral
position. Refer to .
- Item No.11: Steering angle
Q.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 2.
Perform the steering wheel sensor calibration again (Refer to ).
STEP 2. Check the installation condition of the steering wheel sensor.
Check that the steering wheel sensor is installed properly.
Q.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 3.
Reinstall the steering wheel speed sensor properly.
STEP 3. M.U.T.-III data list
Using the Data List, check that the steering wheel sensor value changes smoothly when
the steering wheel is turned to left then right full lock. Also the steering angle shown on
the Data List should correspond to actual steering angle. Refer to .

- Item No.11: Steering angle
Q.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 4.
Replace the steering wheel sensor. After the sensor is replaced, perform the calibration
(Refer to ).
STEP 4. Check whether the diagnosis code is reset.
Check again if the diagnosis code is set.
(1)Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
(2)Erase the diagnosis code.
(3)Turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position.
(4)Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
(5)Test drive the vehicle.
(6)Check if the diagnosis code is set.
(7)Turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position.
(8)Disconnect M.U.T.-III.
Replace the hydraulic unit (integrated with ABS/Active stability control
system-ECU). Then perform the variant coding and write the VIN data (Refer to GROUP 00, Precautions
Before Service - How to Perform Variant Coding ).
The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How
to use Troubleshooting/inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent
Malfunction ).
