Code No.C1555: Steering wheel sensor out of range

OPERATION

The steering wheel sensor output signal is sent to the ABS/Active stability control system-ECU via the private CAN bus line.

DIAGNOSIS CODE SET CONDITIONS

If the system detects an abnormal steering angle (bigger than actual maximum steering angle), it will set the diagnosis code.

PROBABLE CAUSES

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE

STEP 1. M.U.T.-III data list

caution Before connecting or disconnecting the M.U.T.-III, turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position.
Use the Data List to check the steering wheel sensor signal with the steering wheel at straight-forward position. Check whether the Data List shows deviation of within ± 5° from the neutral position. Refer to .

  • Item No.11: Steering angle

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 2.

Perform the steering wheel sensor calibration again (Refer to ).

STEP 2. M.U.T.-III data list

When the steering wheel is turned to left then right full lock, the steering wheel sensor value shown on the Data List should correspond to the actual steering angle. Refer to .

  • Item No.11: Steering angle

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 4.
Go to Step 3.

STEP 3. Check the installation condition of the steering wheel sensor.

Check that the steering wheel sensor is installed correctly.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 4.
Correct the installation condition.

STEP 4. Check whether the diagnosis code is reset.

Check again if the diagnosis code is set.
(1)Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
(2)Erase the diagnosis code.
(3)Turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position.
(4)Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
(5)Turn the steering wheel lock-to-lock.
(6)Check if the diagnosis code is set.
(7)Turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position.
(8)Disconnect M.U.T.-III.

Q. Is code No.C1555 set?

Replace the hydraulic unit (integrated with ABS/Active stability control system-ECU). Then perform the variant coding and write the VIN data (Refer to GROUP 00, Precautions Before Service - How to Perform Variant Coding ).
The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to use Troubleshooting/inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
