Inspection Procedure 14: Battery Run Down
 
 
 
 
COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM
  • The failure could possibly be caused by the failed alternator, defective alternator control system and so on.
 
 
PROBABLE CAUSES
  • Failed battery
  • Open/short circuit in alternator circuit
  • Failed alternator
  • Failed engine-ECU
 
 
DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE
STEP 1. Check battery.
  • Check battery (Refer to GROUP 54A - Battery - On-vehicle Service - Battery Test ).
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 2.
Replace the battery.
 
STEP 2. M.U.T.-IIISE diagnosis code
Is the diagnosis code set?
Inspection chart for diagnosis code (Refer to ).
Go to Step 3.
 
STEP 3. Check of open circuit, and short circuit in LNBS line between engine-ECU connector and alternator connector.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 4.
Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness.
 
STEP 4. Check alternator output line.
  • Alternator output line check (Refer to GROUP 16 - Charging System - On-vehicle Service - Alternator Output Line Voltage Drop Test ).
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 5.
Repair.
 
STEP 5. Check alternator output current.
  • Alternator output current check (Refer to GROUP 16 - Charging System - On-vehicle Service - Output Current Test ).
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 6.
Repair.
 
STEP 6. Check alternator voltage regulator.
  • Alternator voltage regulator check (Refer to GROUP 16 - Charging System - On-vehicle Service - Regulated Voltage Test ).
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 7.
Repair.
 
STEP 7. Check the trouble symptom.
Does the trouble symptom persist?
Replace the engine-ECU.
