Code No. P2564: Waste Gate Position Sensor Circuit Low Input

OPERATION
  • A power voltage of 5 V is applied to the electronic-controlled waste gate actuator from the engine-ECU connector terminal WGP5.
  • The power voltage is earthed to the engine-ECU connector terminal WGPG from the electronic-controlled waste gate actuator.
  • The sensor signal is inputted to the engine-ECU connector terminal WGPS from the electronic-controlled waste gate actuator output terminal.

FUNCTION
  • The waste gate position sensor converts the turbocharger waste gate regulating valve position into voltage and inputs it into the engine-ECU.
  • The engine-ECU controls the waste gate opening angle.

TROUBLE JUDGEMENT
Check Conditions
  • After 2 seconds since the ignition switch is turned ON or since the completion of engine start.
  • Battery positive voltage is more than 6 V.
Judgement Criterion
  • Waste gate position sensor output voltage is less than 0.2 V for 2 seconds.

FAIL-SAFE AND BACKUP FUNCTION
  • Stop driving the waste gate actuator control servo.
  • Torque is restricted.

PROBABLE CAUSES
  • Failed waste gate position sensor
  • Open/short circuit or harness damage in waste gate position sensor circuit or loose connector contact
  • Failed engine-ECU

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE
STEP 1. M.U.T.-IIISE data list
  • Item 127: Waste gate position sensor
OK: Changes when the waste gate operates.
Is the check result normal?
Intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunctions ).
Go to Step 2.

STEP 2. Perform voltage measurement at electronic-controlled waste gate actuator connector.
  • Disconnect connector, and measure at harness side.
  • Ignition switch: ON
  • Voltage between terminal engine-ECU WGP5 line and body earth.
OK: 4.9 - 5.1 V
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 5.
Go to Step 3.

STEP 3. Check of short to earth, and open circuit in WGP5 line between electronic-controlled waste gate actuator connector and engine-ECU connector.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 4.
Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness.

STEP 4.
Replace the engine-ECU.

STEP 5. Check of damage in WGP5 line between electronic-controlled waste gate actuator connector and engine-ECU connector.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 6.
Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness.

STEP 6. Check of short to earth, open circuit, and damage in WGPS line between electronic-controlled waste gate actuator connector and engine-ECU connector.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 7.
Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness.

STEP 7. Replace the turbocharger assembly
  • After replacing the turbocharger assembly, reconfirm whether the diagnosis code is set.
Is the diagnosis code set?
Replace the engine-ECU.
Check end.
