Code No. P0969: Abnormality in Primary Pressure Solenoid Valve Function

DIAGNOSTIC FUNCTION
CVT-ECU conducts fault detection by measuring the difference between the target value and the actual value for the primary pressure.

JUDGEMENT CRITERIA
The following three conditions are met for 10 seconds.
  • The engine is running.
  • Selector lever position: Other than P, N
  • The temperature, which the CVT fluid temperature sensor detects, is higher than -20°C.
  • Difference between the target primary pressure and actual primary pressure is 1.2 MPa or more.

PROBABLE CAUSES
  • Malfunction of valve body assembly (Faulty primary pressure solenoid valve)
  • Malfunction of the CVT assembly

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE
STEP 1. M.U.T.-IIISE diagnosis code
Are diagnosis codes P0970 or P0971 set?
Carry out the appropriate troubleshooting.
Go to Step 2.

STEP 2. Measure the output wave pattern of the primary pressure solenoid valve at CVT-ECU connector (PRLS terminal).
(1) Connect the CVT assembly connector.
(2) Selector lever position: Sport mode (1st gear)
(3) Drive at a constant speed of approx. 20 km/h
(4) Connect an oscilloscope, and measure the voltage between CVT-ECU connector PRLS terminal and body earth.
OK: A wave pattern such as the one shown on (Check Procedure Using an Oscilloscope) should be output. There should be no noise in the output wave pattern.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 3.
Refer to diagnosis code No.P0970: Malfunction of Primary Pressure Solenoid Valve (short) , or diagnosis code No.P0971: Malfunction of Primary Pressure Solenoid Valve (open) .

STEP 3. Symptom recheck after erasing diagnosis code
Turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position, and wait for one minute. Then, drive the vehicle for a while and check again.
Is the diagnosis code set?
Replace the CVT assembly.
Intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
