36 -PARKING BRAKE > TROUBLESHOOTING<ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE><ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE> > SYMPTOM PROCEDURES > THE BRAKE SHOE DRAGS ON THE DRUM OR DISC AFTER THE ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE IS RELEASED.
Inspection Procedure 4: The brake pad drags on the disc after the electric parking brake is released.
 
 
 
 
OPERATION
When you turn ON the ignition switch, and press the electric parking brake switch with the brake pedal depressed, the parking brake will be released.
 
 
COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM
This trouble symptom assumes that M.U.T.-IIISE CAN bus diagnosis result is OK and no diagnosis code is et.
 
 
PROBABLE CAUSES
  • Malfunction of the rear brake caliper assembly
    • Brake piston seized
    • Slide pin moves hard
    • Electric parking brake actuator fails
 
 
DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE
STEP 1. Brake drag force check
Check the dragging force of the rear wheel brake (Refer to GROUP 35A - On-vehicle Service ).
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 2.
Repair or replace the rear brake caliper assembly (Refer to GROUP 35A - Rear Disc Brake Assembly ).
 
STEP 2. Retest the system
Is the check result normal?
YES : Intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
NO (the left rear wheel brake fails) : Repair or replace the electric parking brake actuator assembly (LH) (Refer to ).
NO (the right rear wheel brake fails) : Repair or replace the electric parking brake actuator assembly (RH) (Refer to ).
