36 -PARKING BRAKE > TROUBLESHOOTING<ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE><ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE> > SYMPTOM PROCEDURES > The parking brake does not work (is not locked/released) when the parking brake switch is operated.
Inspection Procedure 3: The electric parking brake is not applied or released when the electric parking brake switch is operated.
 
 
 
 
OPERATION
  • When you pull up the electric parking brake switch with the vehicle stationary, the parking brake will be applied (locked).
  • When you turn ON the ignition switch, and press the electric parking brake switch with the brake pedal depressed, the parking brake will be released.
  • The electric parking brake cannot be applied or released manually when any of the conditions below is satisfied. When you operate the electric parking brake switch with any of the conditions satisfied, the electric parking brake warning lamp and the electric parking brake switch indicator will flash.
  • The system does not apply the parking brake if any of the conditions below is satisfied:
    • Power supply to the ECU fails (8 V or less, or 18 V or more)
    • The system enters the electric motor overheat protection mode.
    The system does not release the parking brake if any of the conditions below is satisfied:
    • Power supply to the ECU fails (8 V or less, or 18 V or more)
    • Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK (OFF) position.
    • The selector lever is not at P range with the brake pedal not depressed.
 
 
COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM
This trouble symptom assumes that M.U.T.-IIISE CAN bus diagnosis result is OK and no diagnosis code is set.
 
 
PROBABLE CAUSES
  • Malfunction of the electric parking brake switch
  • Malfunction of the electric parking brake ECU
 
 
DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE
STEP 1. Check the electric parking brake switch.
Check the electric parking brake switch (Refer to ).
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 2.
Replace the electric parking brake switch (Refer to ).
 
STEP 2. Retest the system
Is the check result normal?
Intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
Replace the electric parking brake ECU (Refer to ).
