Code No.B1E1E Roomlamp Control Overload or Short Circuit
 
 
cautionBefore replacing the ECU, ensure that the power supply circuit, the earth circuit and the communication circuit are normal.
 
 
DIAGNOSTIC FUNCTION
If the room lamp and the ignition key cylinder illumination lamp (key reminder switch) do not come on, the ETACS-ECU will set diagnosis code No. B1E1E.
 
 
JUDGEMENT CRITERIA
Diagnosis code No. B1E1E will be set if the ETACS-ECU detects a short between the room lamp and the key reminder switch.
 
 
PROBABLE CAUSES
  • Malfunction of the front room lamp bulb
  • Malfunction of the front room lamp body
  • Malfunction of the rear room lamp bulb
  • Malfunction of the ignition key cylinder illumination lamp (key reminder switch) <Vehicles without KOS>
  • Damaged harness wires and connectors
  • Malfunction of the ETACS-ECU
 
 
DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE
STEP 1. Bulb check
Check that the following bulbs are installed correctly.
  • Front room lamp bulb
  • Rear room lamp bulb
Is the check result normal?
YES <Vehicles without KOS> : Go to Step 2
YES <Vehicles with KOS> : Go to Step 3
Replace or reinstall the front room lamp bulb or the rear room lamp.
 
STEP 2. Key reminder switch check
Does it come on when battery voltage is applied between terminal Nos. 2 and 1?
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 3
Replace the key reminder switch.
 
STEP 3. Check the following wiring harness.
Check the wiring harness for short circuit between the following connectors:
  • Check of short circuit in RLP- line front room lamp connector and ETACS-ECU connector.
  • Check of short circuit in RLP- line rear room lamp connector and ETACS-ECU connector.
  • Check of short circuit in RLP- line key reminder switch connector and ETACS-ECU connector. <Vehicles without KOS>
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 4.
Repair the wiring harness.
 
STEP 4. Check the following wiring harness.
Check the wiring harness for short to earth circuit between the following connectors:
  • Check of short circuit in earth line front room lamp connector and body earth.
  • Check of short circuit in earth line rear room lamp connector and body earth.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 5.
Repair the wiring harness.
 
STEP 5. Check whether the diagnosis code is set again.
Check again if the diagnosis code No.B1E1E is set in the ETACS-ECU.
(1) Erase the diagnosis code.
(2) Turn on the room lamp.
(3) Check the diagnosis code No.B1E1E is set.
Is the diagnosis code set?
Go to Step 6
The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (GROUP 00 - How to use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
 
STEP 6. Check whether the diagnosis code is set again.
Check again if the diagnosis code No.B1E1E is set in the ETACS-ECU.
(1) Erase the diagnosis code.
(2) Disconnect the front room lamp connector.
(3) Turn on the room lamp.
(4) Check the diagnosis code No.B1E1E is set.
(5) Repeat steps (1) to (4) for the rear room lamp connector to determine a fault cause.
Is the diagnosis code set?
Replace the ETACS-ECU.
Replace a defective lamp (the front room lamp body or the rear room lamp body).
