54 -CHASSIS ELECTRICAL > 54A-CHASSIS ELECTRICAL > ETACS > INPUT SIGNAL PROCEDURES > THE INHIBITOR SWITCH SIGNAL IS NOT RECEIVED
Inspection Procedure 19: The back-up lamp switch <M/T> or inhibitor switch <CVT> signal is not received.

caution
  • Before replacing the ECU, ensure that the power supply circuit, the earth circuit and the communication circuit are normal.

COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM
If there is an error to the back-up lamp switch <M/T> or inhibitor switch <CVT> input signal, the back-up lamp switch <M/T> or inhibitor switch <CVT> signal is no longer output to the communication line.

PROBABLE CAUSES
  • Malfunction of back-up lamp switch <M/T> or inhibitor switch <CVT>
  • Malfunction of the ETACS-ECU
  • Damaged harness wires and connectors

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE
STEP 1. Check the back-up lamp switch <M/T> or inhibitor switch <CVT>.
Check the continuity of the back-up lamp switch or inhibitor switch (Refer to GROUP 22B - Transmission <M/T>, GROUP 23A - On-vehicle Service - Inhibitor Switch Continuity Check <CVT>).
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 2.
Replace the back-up lamp switch <M/T> or inhibitor switch <CVT>.

STEP 2. Voltage measurement at ETACS-ECU connector (BLP1 terminal).
(1) Disconnect the connector, and measure at the wiring harness side.
(2) Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
(3) Check the voltage between the ETACS-ECU connector (BLP1 terminal) and body earth.
OK: System voltage
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 6.
Go to Step 3.

STEP 3. Check of open circuit in BLP1 line between ETACS-ECU connector and back-up lamp switch <M/T> or inhibitor switch <CVT> connector.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 4.
Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness.

STEP 4. Check of open circuit in +B1 line between fusible link and ETACS-ECU connector.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 5.
Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness.

STEP 5. Check of open circuit in BLP+ line between ETACS-ECU connector and back-up lamp switch <M/T> or inhibitor switch <CVT> connector.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 6.
Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness.

STEP 6. M.U.T.-IIISE data list
Check the ETACS-ECU service data.
  • When the shift lever <M/T> or selector lever <CVT> is in reverse position

Item No.Item nameNormal condition
112Backup lamp/Shift reveres switchON
  • When the shift lever <M/T> or selector lever <CVT> is not in reverse position

Item No.Item nameNormal condition
112Backup lamp/Shift reveres switchOFF
OK: Normal condition is displayed.
Is the check result normal?
The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to use Troubleshooting/inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
Replace the ETACS-ECU.
