HOW TO CHECK THE FUNCTIONS
 
 
Use the M.U.T.-IIISE to execute the automatic high beam system operation check on the special function menu.
noteThe headlamps may not be switched between high and low beams when it is dark around the vehicle.
1. Connect the M.U.T.-IIISE.
2. Follow "Check that the automatic high beam system is activated" (Refer to ) to switch on the system (the automatic high beam system operation indicator (green) illuminates).
3. Operate the M.U.T.-IIISE as below:
(1) Select "FCM/LDW/AHB" on the system selection screen.
(2) Select "Special function."
(3) Select "Test."
(4) Select "AHB operation check mode" and wait for ten seconds.
4. Cover the lens on the camera entirely with a lightproof shield.
OK: The headlamps are switched into high beam.
5. Uncover it.
OK: The headlamps are switched into low beam.
 
 
CHECK WHETHER THE AUTOMATIC HIGH BEAM SYSTEM IS ACTIVATED/DEACTIVATED.
(1) Check that the automatic high beam system is activated.
  • When the condition is satisfied, the automatic high beam system will be activated. Then the automatic high beam operation indicator lamp in the combination meter will illuminate in green.
    • Always observe the following procedures from step 1.
      1. Turn the ignition switch from "LOCK" (OFF) position to "ON" position.
      2. Turn on the low-beam headlamps. (Set the lighting switch to "AUTO" or "HEAD" position.)
      3. Turn on the automatic high beam switch.
(2) Check that the automatic high beam system is deactivated.
  • When any of the following conditions is satisfied, the automatic high beam system will be deactivated. Then the automatic high beam operation indicator lamp in the combination meter will go off.
    • Turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position.
    • Press the automatic high beam switch to deactivate the system.
    • Turn off the low-beam headlamps. (Set the lighting switch to any position other than "AUTO" or "HEAD".)
    • Operate the dimmer switch.
 
 
CHECK THE AUTOMATIC HIGH BEAM SYSTEM FOR PROPER OPERATION.
caution
  • An external factor may cause the headlamp beams not to be switched. Prior to the diagnosis, refer to trouble symptom chart . Then take corrective actions if necessary.
(1) Check the automatic high beam system for proper operation (low-beam to high-beam)
  • If all of the conditions below are satisfied, the system will switch the headlamps from the low-beam to high-beam.
    • The vehicle speed is 40 km/h or more.
    • It is dark in front of or around the vehicle. (Darkness, under which the automatic lighting system turns on the headlamps)
    • When there are no preceding vehicle or oncoming vehicles
    • When there are a few street lamps (Including few tunnel lamps)
(2) Check the automatic high beam system for proper operation (high-beam to low-beam)
  • The system switches the headlamp beams if any of the conditions below is satisfied.
    • The vehicle speed is less than 30 km/h.
    • It is bright in front of or around the vehicle.
    • When the tail lamps of a preceding vehicle or the headlamps of an oncoming vehicle are turned on
    • When there are many street lamps (Including many tunnel lamps)
