Inspection Procedure 2: The right or left side of the heated windshield does not work.

cautionBefore replacing the ECU, ensure that the power supply circuit, the earth circuit and the communication circuit are normal.

COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM
When the right or left side of the heated windshield does not work with the heated windshield switch ON (5- or 10-minute timer is triggered), the heated windshield relay circuit system may be defective.
noteWhen the engine is not running, the heated windshield does not work.

PROBABLE CAUSES
  • Malfunction of heated windshield relay
  • Malfunction of heated windshield
  • Wiring harness or connector failure
  • Malfunction of A/C controller assembly

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE
STEP 1. Determine a trouble spot.
Which side of the heated windshield does not work?
RH side heated windshield : Go to Step 2.
LH side heated windshield : Go to Step 6.

STEP 2. Check the heated windshield relay 1
Check that the heated windshield relay 1 works normally (Refer to ).
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 3.
Repair the heated windshield relay 1 concerned.

STEP 3. Voltage measurement at heated windshield relay 1 connector.
(1) Disconnect the connector, and measure at the wiring harness side.
(2) Voltage between terminal No. 2 and body earth
OK: System voltage
(3) Ignition switch: ON.
(4) Voltage between terminal No. 1 and body earth
OK: System voltage
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 4.
Repair connector(s) and wiring harness wire(s) between heated windshield relay 1 and fusible link No.37 or the ETACS-ECU.

STEP 4. Check the HWS1 wires between heated windshield relay 1 and A/C controller assembly connector(s) for open circuit.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 5.
Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness.

STEP 5. Check the output wires between heated windshield relay 1 and heated windshield connector(s) for short to earth or open circuit.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 10.
Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness.

STEP 6. Check the heated windshield relay 2
Check that the heated windshield relay 2 works normally (Refer to ).
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 7.
Repair the heated windshield relay 2 concerned.

STEP 7. Voltage measurement at heated windshield relay 2 connector.
Go to Step 8.
Repair connector(s) and wiring harness wire(s) between heated windshield relay 2 and fusible link No.36 or the ETACS-ECU.

STEP 8. Check the HWS2 wires between heated windshield relay 2 and A/C controller assembly connector(s) for open circuit.

Check that the heated windshield works normally (Refer to ).
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 12.
Go to Step 11.

STEP 11. Check the heated windshield earth point.
Check whether the earth point for the heated windshield is loosened or corroded.
Is the check result normal?
Replace the heated windshield (Refer to GROUP 42A - Window Glass ).
Correct the heated windshield earth.

STEP 12. Retest the system
Check that the heated windshield functions work normally.
Is the check result normal?
The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to use Troubleshooting/inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
Replace the A/C controller assembly (Refer to GROUP 55 - A/C Control Unit ).
