Code No. P0501: Vehicle Speed Sensor

Due to DTC P0513, the fuel cuts enforced by immobilizer system, the engine stalls when starting the car and then DTC P0501 would be possibly stored, however which is not caused by a malfunction. When engine-ECU stores both of DTC P0513 and DTC P0501 concurrently, repair DTC P0513 first, and then check whether DTC P0501 is set again by itself or not.

Check Condition

Ignition switch: ON
Vehicle is running.

Judgment Criterion

This error is detected with a hardware-near detection of the vehicle speed sensor signal for the specified time.

DIAGNOSIS CONTENT

Vehicle speed not valid with overrun

TROUBLE JUDGMENT

Check Conditions

Ignition switch: ON
Engine: overrun

Judgment Criterion

The vehicle speed sensor signal in overrun is below the threshold for the specified time.

DIAGNOSIS CONTENT

Vehicle speed not valid with injection mass and engine speed

TROUBLE JUDGMENT

Check Conditions

Injection amount is above the threshold.
The engine speed is above the threshold.

Judgment Criterion

The vehicle speed is above the threshold for the specified time.

FAIL SAFE FUNCTION

Vehicle speed is recognized as specified one.
Auto-cruise control system is prohibited.

PROBABLE CAUSE

Failed driving system
Failed vehicle speed sensor (Refer to Symptom Procedure - Vehicle Speed Sensor System .)
