LEVEL CHECK

The brake master cylinder reservoir(s) are made of translucent plastic so that the fluid level may be checked without removing the caps. Check the brake fluid level frequently. For example, every time that oil level is checked.

CAUTION
If the brake system warning light comes on, stop the vehicle and immediately check the brake fluid level.

Drain the brake fluid and replace it every 24 months/24000 miles (39,000 km) on drum brake equipped models or every 15 months/15000 miles (24,000 km) on disc brake equipped models (whichever occurs first).

If the fluid level in either of the master cylinder reservoir(s) falls below the bottom (MIN) line molded on the side of the reservoir, add brake fluid to bring the level up to the top (MAX) line.

  1. Clean the top of the reservoir off before removing the cap to prevent dirt from entering the master cylinder.
  2. Pour the fluid slowly to prevent air bubbles from forming. Brake fluid is a good paint remover, so don't spill any on the vehicle's paint.

    WARNING
Do not use a lower grade of brake fluid than specified. Never mix different types of brake fluid. Doing either of the above could cause a brake system failure.
