Valves

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

  1. Remove the cylinder head from the engine.
  2. Remove the pushrods and valve rockers.
  3. Using valve spring press assembly (899724100) or its equivalent, compress the valve spring and remove the valve spring retainer key.
  4. Mark each valve and spring to prevent confusion during installation.
  5. Remove the oil seals from over the valve stems and guide bosses with a pair of pliers
  6. Remove the valves.

    To install:

  7. Lubricate the valve stems, and install the valves in the cylinder head as numbered.
  8. Lubricate and position the new seals (if used) and the valve springs.
  9. Install the spring retainers, compress the springs, and insert the keys using needlenose pliers or a tool designed for this purpose.

    NOTE: Retain the keys with wheel bearing grease during installation.
