Blower Motor

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

ff–1 and 1300G Models

1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.
2. Detach the heater control cable at the blower housing in the front of the engine compartment by removing the cable retaining circlip and the sheath securing nut.

3. Disengage the blower motor connections at the blower motor.
4. Remove its clamps and take the hot air duct off the blower housing.
5. Unbolt the sub-radiator shroud at the housing.
6. Remove the bolts which secure the housing and lift it out of the car.
7. To remove the motor and fan assembly from the housing, unfasten the motor securing screws.

   To install:

8. Install the motor into the housing.
9. Position the blower housing into the vehicle and secure with the retainer fasteners.
10. Install the sub-radiator shroud.
11. Install the hot air duct onto the blower housing and engage the electrical connections.
12. Install the heater control cable.
13. Connect the battery cable.

Except ff-1 and 1300G Models

1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.
2. Remove the luggage shelf and glovebox.
3. Detach the heater duct at the blower case.
4. Set the mode lever to CIRC for access and then disconnect the vacuum hose at the actuator.

5. Disengage the blower electrical connector.
6. Remove the actuator from the blower case by removing two screws and a clip.
7. Remove the blower case assembly from the body of the heater unit.
8. Remove the two bolts, and remove the blower and motor assembly and seal from the case.
9. If you're replacing the motor, remove the attaching nut and washers, and pull the blower off the motor shaft. Transfer these parts to the new motor.
10. Before installation, make sure the seal is in good condition or, if necessary, replace it.
11. Installation is in the reverse of removal.

    NOTE: Some Subaru owners report that the blower may sometimes rub the case in which it is mounted as it warms up. If this seems to be the case (you hear a rubbing noise after the blower has run for a while), ascertain that the blower is properly mounted to the shaft. If so, replace the motor assembly.
