The front bumper can be removed without using a two-post lift. However, use
of a two-post lift saves time and facilitates bumper removal. The following
procedures apply when removing the bumper, with or without the use of a two-post
lift, unless otherwise noted.
- Before lifting the vehicle, remove the negative (-) battery cable.
- If not using a lift, remove the battery and canister.
- If a lift is being used, remove the left and right undercovers.
- Remove the left and right hold down bands from the main harness and move
the harness away from the bumper.
- On models equipped with automatic transaxle, remove the clips that secure
the automatic transaxle lines, and move the lines away from the front bumper.
- On models with air conditioning, move the left transaxle line away from
the bumper.
- Insert rags between the front bumper and the car body to ensure sufficient
clearance to insert a service tool to remove the bumper mounting bolts.
- Disengage the harness connectors from the left and right front turn signal
lamps.
- Place a container under the headlight washer unit to catch the fluid, and
disconnect the headlight washer hoses.
- Remove the bolts that secure the front bumper. With the help of an assistant,
remove the bumper.
- Reverse steps 1 through 10 to install the bumper.
- Clearance between the bumper and upper skirt is 0.2 in. (6mm) when viewed
from the front of the car.
- Open the trunk lid.
- Remove the trunk trim panel clips and detach the trim.
- Remove both the side and center trunk covers.
- Disengage the rear light harness connector.
- Remove the 2 flange nuts.
- Extract the rear bumper half way. Unfasten the grommet from the license
plate harness, and remove the connector through the hole in the skirt section.
- Remove the rear bumper horizontally.
- Installation is the reverse of removal.
- Remove the 2 bolts that secure each lower end of the bumper to the body.
- Remove the plug from the wall on each side of the center sub trunk and unfasten
the rear bumper retaining bolts.
- Remove the bumper assembly from the vehicle.
- Installation is the reverse of removal.
