NOTE: Before removing the fuel lines, use hose pliers or equivalent,
to pinch off the fuel lines on both sides of the fuel filter.
On carbureted models, the fuel filter is located in the engine compartment,
close to the passenger side of the firewall or under the vehicle beneath the
driver's seat.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- If the fuel filter is located in the engine compartment;
- Snap the filter out of its mounting bracket.
- Loosen, but DO NOT remove, the two hose clamp retainers,
located at either end of the filter.
- Remove the hoses from the filter necks.
- Discard the old filter.
- If the filter is located under the vehicle;
- Raise and support the vehicle safely on jackstands.
- Locate the fuel filter on a bracket under the center of the vehicle.
- Place a pan under the filter, to catch any excess spilled fuel.
- Disconnect the fuel pump electrical connector. Unfasten the hose clamps
at both ends of the filter and slide the hoses off the filter.
- As required, remove the bolts from the fuel pump bracket and pull the
filter off the bracket to remove. Once removed, discard the filter.
CAUTION
When removing the old filter, be careful not to allow any fuel to drop
onto hot engine components.
To install:
- Check the hoses for cracks and wear, and replace if needed.
- Install the new filter into the mounting bracket.
- Connect the hoses on the filter necks and tighten the hose clamps securely.
- Connect the negative battery cable.
- Lower the vehicle if raised.
