REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

Justy
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the retainer clips and choke knob and nut, if equipped.
  3. Remove the instrument cluster trim cover retainer screws and clips.
  4. Remove the trim cover, and place aside.
  5. Remove the defroster duct assembly.
  6. Disconnect the heater control cable from the air selector rod at the heater unit.
  7. Remove the instrument cluster retaining screws, and carefully pull the cluster assembly forward enough to access the rear of the assembly.
  8. Disconnect the speedometer cable from the rear of the instrument cluster. Disconnect the electrical harnesses from the cluster assembly.
  9. Remove the instrument cluster from the mounting tabs.
  10. Installation is the reverse of removal. Secure all components accordingly.
  11. Test all instrument functions, including the gauges and dash light to make them work correctly.
Sedan, Coupe, Loyale, Wagon and Brat

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the steering column retainer bolts, and lower the column.
  3. Remove the retainer screws securing the instrument cluster visor in place. Lift the visor forward and unfasten the harnesses attached to the switches in the panel. Place the panel aside.
  4. Remove the instrument cluster retainer screws. Pull the cluster assembly out enough to access the wire harnesses and speedometer cable at the rear of the assembly.
  5. Disconnect the speedometer cable and wire harnesses from the rear of the cluster.
  6. Remove the cluster from the vehicle.
  7. Installation is the reverse of removal. Secure all components to specifications.
  8. Test all instrument functions, including the gauges and dash light to make them work correctly.
XT
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the lower trim panel on the driver's side. Remove the side ventilation duct.
  3. Open the fuse box lid. Remove the fuse box-to-instrument panel screws, then remove the fuse box.
  4. Using a suitable prytool. Carefully separate the upper cover, at 3 points, from the instrument panel.
  5. Remove the steering column assembly, combination meter and the control wing as a unit. Refer to Section 8 for steering column removal and installation.
  6. Disconnect the instrument panel electrical harnesses from the steering column assembly.
  7. Remove the instrument cluster to steering column screws, and separate the cluster from the column.
  8. Installation is the reverse of removal. Tighten each component to specifications.
  9. Test all instrument functions, including the gauges and dash light to make them work correctly.
Legacy and Impreza

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Properly disarm the air bag.
  2. Remove the bolts securing the steering column and lower it down.
  3. Remove the center ventilator control lever by pulling it. Remove the 3 screws accessible through the ventilator grille to the right of the cluster and the 1 screw accessible through the grille on the left. Remove the vent.
  4. Remove the dash panel retainer screws around the instrument cluster.
  5. Carefully pull the trim panel forward and disconnect the electrical harnesses attached to the switches in the trim panel. Remove the trim panel and place aside.
  6. Remove the cluster retaining screws, then pull the cluster out far enough to disconnect the speedometer cable and electrical harnesses from behind, then remove the cluster assembly from the vehicle.
  7. Installation is the reverse of removal. Secure all components accordingly.
  8. Test all instrument functions, including the gauges and dash light to make them work correctly.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Properly disarm the air bag.
  2. Move the steering wheel to its lowest tilt position. Remove the lower steering column cover.
  3. Remove the lower cluster cover and the screws that retain the cluster visor around the instrument cluster.
  4. Disconnect the clock while pulling the visor away from the cluster.
  5. Remove the screws that retain the cluster and tilt the cluster forward. Disconnect the electrical harnesses and speedometer cable.
  6. Remove the cluster from the vehicle.
  7. Connect the electrical leads and speedometer cable to the rear of the instrument cluster assembly.
  8. Install the cluster in position in the dash panel.
  9. The remainder of installation is the reverse of removal. Tighten each component to specifications.
  10. Test all instrument functions, including the gauges and dash light to make them work correctly.
