The linkage adjustment is important for the automatic transaxle. Great care
should be exercised because improper adjustment will result in damage to the
transaxle.
To determine if adjustment is necessary, check the shifting operation with
the engine off and the parking brake applied. While holding in the release button
with your thumb, move the selector lever forward until you can feel that the
transaxle is in PARK. Then move the lever back and feel for the five remaining
positions. If the gear selector indicator points to the proper gear at each
stop, and if the selector lever does not jump when the release button is let
go, the shift linkage is properly adjusted. If this is not the case adjustment
is necessary.
- Place the gear selector in N position.
- Loosen the adjusting nuts on the linkage rod.
- Check that the manual lever on the transaxle is in the N detent
position. The manual lever is in the neutral position when the selector arm
is between the cast bosses of the transaxle case.
- Set the gear selector lever so that it clicks in the neutral position.
- Adjust the fitting length of the rod by turning nut A until
it comes into contact with the connector while pushing the rod lightly with
one finger.
- Tighten the nut B with nut A kept stationary
with wrench.
- Engage the electrical connector to the neutral safety switch.
- After adjustment, check the selector operation through all gear ranges.
- Check operation of the back-up lights when the selector is place in R.
- Check that the engine does not start in any other position except P and N.

- Set the gear selector lever so that it clicks in the neutral position.
- Push cable and nut A to the lever end and adjust the inner
cable with nut B.
NOTE: Do not move nut C.
- After adjustment, check the selector operation through all gear ranges.
- Check operation of the back-up lights when the selector is place in R.
- Check that the engine does not start in any other position except P and N.

- Set the gear selector lever so that it clicks in the neutral position.
- Measure the distance between the turn buckle and cable end link at the transaxle.
It should be is less than 0.51 in. (13mm).
- Adjust the cable by turning the turn buckle on the cable link.
- If necessary, loosen the cable end at the transaxle side to increase or
decrease the length of the inner cable.
- After adjustment, check the selector operation through all gear ranges.
- Check operation of the back-up lights when the selector is place in R.
- Check that the engine does not start in any other position except P and N.
